Coffee could help smaller garden centres up their sales


Smaller garden centres without cafés are being offered the chance to trial automatic Bean to Cup coffee machines this spring (2016) in a bid to showcase how they can increase their sales.
 
Outlets wishing to improve spend per head but don’t have the space or facilities for a restaurant are getting the opportunity to install a machine for their customers to use.
 
Owner of tea and coffee equipment and product supplier, Café Works, Jacques Farmer, said: “We’re happy for garden centres to have one of our fully automatic Bean to Cup machine as part of a trial for a limited period, on a rental basis, to show them how they can increase their sales overall.
 
“In other similar outlets where we have installed them, retailers without cafés already have fed back to us that the addition of coffee to their offering is attracting new customers and that when they are on-site they are buying additional items. They also say that existing customers are now visiting more often as well.”
 
Café Works, which is based in Shropshire, provides single serve coffee options, tea and coffee equipment and vending solutions.
 
Jacques added: “The trials we’ve run already in similar businesses have been great successes. Feedback has included that customers are delighted they can now purchase a tastier, less expensive coffee than at their local Starbucks.
 
“For garden centres that don’t have a café this is the next best thing for testing the catering market as visitors can select their own great tasting coffee without staff being involved and it’s not just any random vended coffee either, the machine uses top quality beans.
 
“Our trails have found that the introduction of the machine has definitely helped increase customer spend per head.”
 
Jacques worked for Sodexo, one of the world’s leading providers of contract catering and Facilities Management, for 18 years and has 30 years’ experience in supplying vending and hot beverage equipment and products to clients in all sectors.

At Sodexo his responsibilities ranged from technical services, operations, client account management and business development to managing key clients such as Honda UK Manufacturing and Unilever.

At the start of this year (2016), he launched, Café Works, which is an authorised distributor of Keurig equipment and products.

Jacques, who is licensed to work in tea and coffee services by the Academy of Food and Wine Service, added: “Having a machine like this on site at a garden centre is a simple and effective way of increasing your spend per head with minimal effort and of adding to your customer base at the same time.
 
“As well as the machine, we also provide the best ethically sourced coffee beans from smaller suppliers, greatly improving prices and quality.
 
“I like to think that Café Works Ltd is ‘more than just tea and coffee’. We do everything from offering sound advice to selling great equipment and products, and have innovative ideas to help our clients solve the various problems they might have, along with providing other bits and pieces for home, restaurants and coffee shops.

“We are also working with an established designer to tailor our equipment and products to suit, for example, farm shops needing coffee to go and restaurants needing something more sophisticated. We also help small businesses needing equipment to help save staff time in-house when making that all important, inspirational and thirst-quenching cuppa for the team!”
