The Garden Oven Company launches new oven
The Garden Oven Company has created the ultimate in wood fired ovens with a new design that promises even better al fresco cooking on an even larger scale. Bang on trend and in high demand this summer, these environmentally-friendly British-made ovens create the 'smoked' and 'wood fire' taste that is all the rage for outdoor cooking in all seasons.

The Model 2 Garden Oven is bigger than the original Model 1 family sized Garden Oven, giving customers a choice of size. With a 50% larger baking area that can cook two pizzas at once and easily accommodates any AGA roasting pan, the Model 2 oven offers more space for the larger event or family gathering.

Jay Larson, who owns The Garden Oven Company says, ‘Our Model 1 oven is incredibly popular, but we've created the Model 2 Garden Oven that allows even more culinary options. The Model 2 has an additional layer of high insulation between bricks and the steel walls, and it holds even better for slow cooking. Just like the Model 1, we've incorporated an adjustable height baking shelf and rack for ease of use. The Model 2 is designed with "pub garden cooking" in mind.'

Both models of the Garden Oven have been designed in the UK to improve the outdoor living experience and has a whole host of uses. Jay adds, ‘The Garden Oven is intended for year-round cooking. With its multi function oven, chefs can cook, bake, grill, roast and smoke a wide range of dishes from pizza to fish, bread to Sunday roast! Unlike traditional brick ovens, the Garden Oven is transportable with no building work required.'

Designed by entrepreneur Jay, who hails from the States and who grew up with wood-fired outdoor cooking, he says his aim with the Garden Oven was to create something that can be used in any weather for year-round enjoyment. ‘Knowing how unpredictable the British weather is, this really is an oven for all seasons.

The Garden Oven is very efficient because it is lined with firebrick that stores the heat and insulates it so it stays warm and evenly heated long after the fire is out. Think BBQ and patio warmer!

‘To create the perfect, easy cooking experience, you simply light the fire in the bottom section and cook on top. You can use the mid-level baking surface for a two minute stone-baked pizza. For barbequing and smoking the stainless steel grill and rack are used and the sturdy stand lifts the oven up to a convenient height and serves as a wood store. Both Model 1 and Model 2 ovens are designed to face the elements and come with a heavy duty cover to keep the wood dry and the oven tidy.'

Jay, 52, lives in Hampshire and has been cooking outdoors in the UK for 23 years. With a background in engineering, he started up The Garden Oven Company in 2010. He sees the Garden Oven as creating a unique outdoor cooking experience. ‘The Garden Oven in Model 1 and Model 2 styles are special because of the design and they are conducive to all types of cooking.  Smoking, baking, pizza, grilling, slow cooking… it does it all exceptionally well.'

Jay is also an advocate of wood fired cooking generally, saying: ‘Wood fired cooking just is better.  By far, it was the first fuel used to cook with.  And a wood fire gives great flavours.  It is carbon neutral too. Greener, cleaner, and tastier all round!'

The Garden Oven was inspired by Jay's love of cooking. ‘I had really admired a friend's outdoor oven from France and I thought at once that here was a product that could really be improved upon and was not being sold in the UK. I researched the construction of outdoor ovens and came up with a design that I hoped would perform well and be attractive in a UK garden. The Garden Oven Model 1 and the Garden Oven Company was born. The Model 2 is an extension of the demands from our customer base who love outdoor cooking.'

Jay is keen for the Garden Oven to be made locally in the UK. He says: ‘Ultimately, I wanted the product to be locally made. I think that we move goods too much around the planet. Yet having the resources available to design and manufacture products locally can be critical. I'm fortunate to work with local companies which lower costs and ultimately create a better product. I now proudly place the ‘Made in Britain' badge on the ovens.'

The response to the Garden Oven's wood fired cooking has been phenomenal. Jays says: ‘Our foodie customers love the product and are always giving me great feedback and writing to me about what they have cooked in their ovens. I love to see the recipes people come up with.'
