What a start to 2022! As early bird offers started sales soared, up by 23% week on week.
Remember, we were in lockdown #3 for the Delta variant this time last year, hence volumes for the start of 2022 are 149% up on 2021. Most significantly they are 12% up on pre-pandemic 2019 levels.
Growing media saw the biggest week on week increase and the biggest variance to week 2 last year. Garden products and plants also saw huge growth in the second week of the year after post-Christmas clearance sales gave a boost to week 1.
The mood was very good and buoyant at Harrogate Christmas & Gift this week with all garden centres we spoke to very happy with their Christmas sales, even though some products arrived late. The consensus was that stock packed away this year will be good for margin improvement in 2022.
