October garden centres sales nose ahead of 2018 but trail previous two years

October’s garden centre volume sales were better than last year but not quite as good as 2016 and 2017 October levels, according to the latest data FROM GTN Bestsellers

According to GTN Bestsellers compiled from weekly epos sales data, the month ended 2.8% up on last year and 5% above the average for the past nine years.

Considering the high levels of rainfall we’ve had during the month, that is a very good performance and once again probably contrary to most other branches of retailing.

Sectorwise, Christmas missed being a record for the month by only 1.7% and that was mainly due to a very wet first half term week. Hopefully the sunny spells we’ve had this week will bring more cheer during the second half term week and that Halloween activities drive sales up for the first week of November.
