RHS to invest over £7 million in home grown horticultural talent


The RHS has committed to invest £7.3 million by 2025 to halt the decline in the number of people in the UK with horticultural skills. As part of the investment the charity will increase the number of its horticultural apprentice and training positions from 46 to 76 over the next 10 years to encourage and support more people to enter the industry...

Cold start to Easter trading but young veg sales get hot
Good Friday and Easter Saturday once again failed to make up for being closed on Easter Sunday as cold weather saw sales down on the previous week when most garden centres would have been hoping for big increases...



An explosion of young veg plant sales has bucked the trend. Above, pupils at Sherborne Primary School in Dorset have been invited by Castle Gardens to take part in The Gardens Group’s new Young Grower of the Year competition.

Garden centres were boosted by warm and sunny weather on Easter Monday which enticed shoppers to flock to their stores. The mood was summed up by Poplars general manager Alastair Jackson, who commented: "It was a stonker of a day."
