St Johns buy Wyevale Ashford Barnstaple

St Johns Garden Centre in Barnstaple, Devon, has bought Ashford Barnstaple Garden Centre from Wyevale.  "We took the site over on Friday 28th September and started trading over the weekend," Nick Oliver told GTN Xtra.  "Ashford is a great site to the west of Barnstaple and compliments our trading at St Johns which is in the east of the town."

"We have a good crew at Ashford who are champing at the bit to make changes and improvements.  Our plan is to get the centre clean and tidy for winter trading and to be fully ready horticulturally by Feb 1st 2019."

A spokesperson for Wyevale Garden Centres said: “We are pleased to have agreed the sale of Ashford Barnstaple. We would like to thank our great colleagues at the centre, who have been central to our turnaround in the past few years, and wish our colleagues well under the new ownership.”

Wyevale Ashford, a 5.1 acre site, was advertised for sale at £2.1m freehold when all 146 Wyevale Garden Centres were put up for sale in May this year.  Previously Ashford was owned by Trelawney Garden Centres who sold it to Wyevale in November 2014.  At the time it became Wyevale's 142nd garden centre.  See GTN Xtras story about the sale to Wyevale here

The sale of Wyevale Garden Centres continue with more announcements anticipated later this month.
