Olympic cyclists drop in for tea and cake at garden centre

Visitors to an Usk garden centre were surprised when they bumped into a special group of cyclists during their training preparations for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Morris’s Garden Centre in Usk was host to members of Team GB’s cycling team earlier this month, as the team prepared for the ongoing Olympic Games.

The cyclists, who were staying at the Celtic Manor in Newport, dropped in to the garden centre for tea and cake a number of times before the games, which have proved a success for the team.
Garden centre manager Kate Morris said the team came in on three or four separate occasions.

“I couldn’t believe it”, she added.

The cyclists – Sir Bradley Wiggins,  Steven Burke, Ed Clancy and Owain Doull – went on to take victory in the team pursuit, while Mark Cavendish secured silver in the omnium.
