Greenfingers Garden at Chelsea nears completion
See GTN Xtra's photos of the garden from Saturday of Build-Up at RHS Chelsea Flower Show

The Greenfingers Charity Garden at RHS Chelsea Flower Show is in the final stage of completion, ready for the RHS judges and the worlds media on Monday and then for the thousands of visitors from Tuesday onwards.

With millions watching on TV, the garden along with the rest of the floral extravaganza is sure to generate a burst of extra gardening interest across the country, especially if the weather stays good through the week.

The Greenfingers Garden, which is built on three levels, is an oasis of gardening calm and pleasure that is fully accessible to children in wheelchairs as well as their carers and family members.  It is also a great example of what can be achieved in a small urban style space.  For all garden centres that have a customer base of new "urban" gardens mainly comprising balconies and patios, this garden at Chelsea should provide plenty of inspiration to help with displays and retail opportunities.

The main aim of the garden, which has been funded by a private donation, is to raise the profile of our industry charity, and make it easier for us all to raise more funds so the growing list of children's hospice gardens that are still urgently needed can be built and enjoyed for many years to come.

The team, led by designer Kate Gould, and all Greenfingers Charity supporters across the industry, now await the results of the RHS judging which will be announced on Tuesday morning, but most importantly they are looking forward to the result of the BBC/RHS Peoples Choice Award.  You can help Greenfingers win that award by encouraging your customers to vote for the Greenfingers Garden when the poll opens - we will update this story with the judging link when it goes live.

If you are coming to Chelsea, the GTN team will be there on Monday for Press Day, on Tuesday afternoon and then again on Wednesday when we will be volunteering on the Greenfingers Garden.  See you there!

See our GTN Xtra gallery of photos from build-up yesterday and some from earlier in the 16 day construction period taken by Greenfingers Trustee Boyd Douglas-Davies.
