Following the nominations closing, a shortlist of the most nominated people, products and plants will then be voted on by readers of GTN Xtra and Glee Daily News during August.

The winners will be announced onsite at Glee 2024, which will run from Tuesday, 10th September, to Thursday, 12th September, at the NEC in Birmingham.

As the Glee exhibition gets set to celebrate half a century at the heart of the garden retail sector, the organising team is looking for your input. In the past 50 years, Glee has seen thousands of exhibitors and visitors pass through its doors, with hundreds of thousands of new products launched since the show’s humble beginnings in 1974. To celebrate the newness and passion that have shaped Glee and the broader garden centre market during this time, the hunt is now on to find the people and product that have driven the most change over the past five decades.

Whether advocating for sustainability or using their influence to increase the reach of horticulture, many diverse people have left their mark on the world of garden retail. They might be suppliers, retailers, industry pundits, or those who have undertaken roles across the full spectrum. Whatever their role, all of them have been integral to Glee's growth, and their work has helped maintain gardening as one of the nation's best-loved pastimes.

Or perhaps the best memories of Glee involve a larger-than-life character. This person may play a starring role in Glee’s memoirs, providing endless smiles, friendly advice and happy recollections from those that knew them pacing the aisles of shows gone by.

Like the people who create them, gardening products have also generated pivotal moments of change. From finally tackling an age-old problem, formulating an innovative bestseller opportunity, opening a meaningful dialogue about gardening's impact on the planet, or simply using technology to make gardening more accessible for the modern consumer, there have been many hero products over the past half century.

Now is the time for Glee's audience to vote for their own heroes and celebrate the people and product they think have had the most impact on Glee's future and that of the garden retail sector.

Matthew Mein, Event Director at Glee, said: "The gardening world has changed so much from the early 70s, with each decade ringing in exciting new trends and innovation. Throughout all of this, Glee has maintained a constant presence, year-after-year providing a place where the garden retail sector can come together to inspire, network and educate. Now, we want to celebrate those who have left a mark in a fun and reflective look back on Glee's half-century. We're excited to see the nominations, find out the eventual winners, and are prepared for a tidal wave of nostalgia and questionable haircuts!"

Plant pots accepted in kerbside recycling from 2026

Starting in 2026, all non-black, recyclable PET or PP plastic plant pots will be accepted in household kerbside recycling in England. Defra confirmed this move following a successful long-term advocacy campaign from the Horticultural Trades Association (HTA), which will help reduce plastic waste and promote environmental sustainability.

The new Separation of Waste (England) Regulations 2024 for non-household municipal premises will come into force on 31 March 2025, with household collections beginning a year later, on 31 March 2026. Although pots will likely need to be rinsed before recycling, this can be easily integrated into existing recycling routines. Additionally, Defra has stated that Ministers will review recycling policies at the earliest opportunity to provide further certainty and clarity to stakeholders.

Liz Williams, Sustainability Executive at the HTA, emphasised the importance of the explicit inclusion of plant pots:

“The HTA has been asking at every opportunity for non-black, fully recyclable plastic plant pots to be expressly included in kerbside recycling collections, without wording left open to interpretation, which could result in inconsistency across local councils.

“This policy change allows consumers to recycle plant pots at home, marking a substantial win for both the industry and the environment. Plastic is a valuable material and serves an essential purpose in environmental horticulture, but it is crucial that we reuse and recycle it. We will continue to push for clear consumer messaging to ensure no non-black plastic plant pot is left behind.

“Although this policy currently covers England, with a proposed extension to Wales, we hope it will serve as a blueprint for the entire UK, reducing inconsistencies and simplifying recycling for consumers and businesses. We also anticipate alignment with broader waste policies like Extended Producer Responsibility for packaging and the Deposit Return Scheme, further promoting environmental sustainability."

This follows the simpler recycling collections announcement made by the previous government in May.

Wildlife World partners with social enterprise group

Wildlife World has created a groundbreaking business and social partnership with Wildlife and Birdcare Nature Recovery CIC, based in Stoke on Trent.

Wildlife and Birdcare Nature Recovery CIC, established in 2019, is a Community Interest Company – a recognised and award winning social enterprise supporting people back into work, who through illness, age, neuro-diversity, or learning disabilities and autism, struggle to obtain paid employment.

Wildlife World Managing Director Mark Pitman said: “Social ethics and values are really important to us, so much so that we have entered into partnership with a social enterprise, that will enhance our offering to you, bring a wider range of products, and most importantly, will support people back into work who through illness, age, neuro-diversity, or learning disabilities and autism, struggle to obtain paid employment.

“The partnership creates a strong bond between us to supply a wide range of innovative and fit-for-purpose wildlife habitats to our existing trade and retail customer bases, forge new business relationships, and aid our diversification into the expanding market for habitat restoration and the management of biodiversity and conservation projects.

“You’ll know us as a 25-year-old award winning designer and manufacturer of wildlife habitats with a strong commitment to environmental sustainability. Our products make a significant, and on-going contribution to the survival of species across the UK, Europe and the USA.

“Combining our UK workshops in Gloucestershire and Stoke on Trent, will provide a stronger UK manufacturing base whilst supporting the work of the social enterprise, and enhance our wider supplier network, which continues to produce Fair Trade, FSC, ethical and sustainable manufacturing from the EU and overseas.

“In partnering with the CIC, Wildlife World will support the financial and manufacturing structure of the CIC, to enable it to continue with its learner and educational programs.

“My overarching message to you, as a valued customer, is that our existing trade customer base will be unaffected by the partnership, other than to gain the fantastic opportunity of being able to access a wider range of wildlife habitats and wildlife related giftware products through your existing account.  Wildlife and Birdcare Nature Recovery CIC customer accounts will migrate over to Wildlife World in due course, and be handled by our sales and accounts team.

“We are delighted to be able to work together with Wildlife and Birdcare Nature Recovery CIC to create this partnership for good, and as a valued customer to us, you will be helping and supporting people back into work through the great work of the social enterprise. We will be able to explain in more detail how this partnership will work at GLEE 2024, where, thanks to the support of Hyve, the organisers of Glee, we now have a combined stand, to showcase newness and exciting product developments.”

Sammy Holman, CEO of Wildlife and Birdcare Nature Recovery CIC, said: “Getting the support for our CIC, its social values, and the people we support, enables us to create a stronger story around our products and the social enterprise, mission and goals to help save the crisis of nature and nurture people who have additional needs.  It means a lot to me to have Wildlife World’s support for the future”.  Being ‘Autistic’ myself I am proud to shout that from the roof tops as to me it is not a label, but it forms part of my talent as a designer, innovator and artist and provides me with the passion I have to help others to reach their goals and achieve paid employment.”

New Mental Health & Wellbeing course released on GCA’s GROW

A new Mental Health & Wellbeing course has been launched this month on the GCA's Garden Retail Online Workshops (GROW) e-Learning platform.

This is the 94th course to be added and it’s available to all GCA member garden centres and their teams, and to Horticultural Trades Association (HTA) garden centres too.

GROW’s Instructional Designer, Antony Snow, says: “Understanding more about mental health has never been so important, so I’m delighted to have launched this course on Mental Health & Wellbeing, which has been produced in response to several requests from our members.

“All of our members take the mental health of their employees extremely seriously and hopefully this course will complement the efforts that they have already made to help their staff to recognise the signs and symptoms, reduce the stigma associated with them, and improve overall wellbeing in their centres.”

GROW courses cover a wide range of essential topics to help employees gain confidence and knowledge about products and services, so they can effectively assist any customers and colleagues who need help.

GCA CEO, Peter Burks says: “GROW is a cost-effective way of providing staff training and personal development. It’s accessible 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, making it convenient for staff to use when best for them. Our members say it’s an invaluable tool.

“If you’d like further details on GROW and this course or any of the others offered, please get in touch. There is also a section on our website www.gca.org.uk/gca-grow-information and people can contact the team via a dedicated email grow@gca.org.uk.”

GROW started as an initial idea, devised during a strategy meeting of the GCA’s executive committee, to bring education and training tailored to individuals employed in the garden centre industry.

It’s a self-funding and non-profit facility with any surpluses being reinvested into its ongoing development and improvement. There are currently 94 courses and more than 12,000 users throughout the UK.

These courses include a wide range of topics that cover horticulture, customer service, food safety, regulated sales and health and safety.

All the courses have been written by experts in their field and are designed to apply to a garden centre environment, with the content for the horticultural courses drawing on the vast experience of members within the GCA.

The team at Old Railway Line Garden Centre has successfully embarked on their ambitious charity fundraiser, raising vital funds for #BeMoreFrank and the Ewings Sarcoma Research Trust. Team One recently completed a gruelling 15-mile hike over the Brecon Beacons, finishing their journey in 9 and a half hours.

So far, over £3,000 has been raised, and Team Two is hoping to push the fundraising even further over the next week and during their challenge this Saturday.

Garden Retail Director, Liam Cleary, praised the team's efforts last weekend: "The determination and teamwork shown by Team One were amazing to see. We faced challenging conditions but were motivated by the cause and the incredible support from the generous people who have sponsored us. It’s heartening to see everyone come together for such worthy charities, and I’m confident Team Two will be successful in completing the challenge this Saturday too."

Marketing Director, Joe Aldworth added, "We are overwhelmed by the support and generosity we’ve received so far. The dedication and spirit of our team, coupled with the community’s contributions, are truly inspiring. We are excited to see Team Two take on the challenge and further our efforts for these incredible causes."

This year, Old Railway Line Garden Centre has chosen two significant charities to support, in honour of friends and families within our local community who are facing difficult battles.

#BeMoreFrank is a special named fund of the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust, raising funds in Frank’s name to provide financial assistance to families with a child diagnosed with cancer. Your contribution can make a substantial difference to families enduring the toughest of times.

Ewings Sarcoma Research Trust (Bone Cancer Research Trust) aims to improve the treatment and outcomes for patients with Ewing’s Sarcoma. Each year, around 2,400 teenagers and young adults are diagnosed with cancer, with approximately 88 facing primary bone cancer. The impact of treatment adds to the complex challenges these young patients already face.

Old Railway Line Garden Centre is a community-focused business committed to supporting local causes and enhancing the lives of those around us. Through various initiatives and events, we strive to make a positive impact on our community.

Deroma – the world’s largest terracotta pot manufacturer – is making its highly anticipated return to Glee, marking an end to its three-year hiatus from exhibiting.

Deroma’s return has been influenced by Glee’s new dateline, which sees the show return to a September schedule. Jonathan Price, Head of UK at Deroma, said: “The timing of Glee is now much more aligned with the sales seasonality of our core customers, making a return to exhibiting an obvious choice. We are excited to return and to showcase our latest products to the next generation of buyers, owners, and customers. Since last exhibiting, we have invested in a UK-wide sales and merchandising team and we have some unique products that set us apart from the competition, so we urge buyers to come see how these developments can benefit them in the coming seasons.”

At Glee this September, the Deroma team will be on hand to walk garden retailers through its extensive offering.  Existing lines will be complemented by a new indoor collection, XXL Tuscany pots, plus a large selection of glazed and handmade pots and planters.  In a move to better illustrate its commitment to sustainability, Deroma will also launch a new material across its existing plastic pot range making them now from recycled and recyclable materials, including two new product ranges, Cosmo and Origin. Additionally, the team will outline the next steps on Deroma’s ‘green journey’, which has recently included converting its factory roof to solar panels, a move equivalent to planting 11,000 trees a year.

Speaking about Deroma’s return, Matthew Mein, Glee Event Director, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Deroma back to Glee. Their return is a testament to the new timing of the event, which has clearly hit the mark with leading suppliers. Deroma’s presence adds tremendous value to the exhibition, and we are pleased to see them showcase their impressive range of terracotta pots once again.”

These were so popular with friends and family that the business kind of took off organically! Winning several products awards as well as Blenheim Palace Start up business award in 2018 and Oxfordshire’s most sustainable business award in 2023, the business really took off!

Leading British peat-free brand, RocketGro reflects on a successful launch and great partnership with Crocus, following the introduction of its products to the prominent online retailer’s site earlier this year.

RocketGro launched its collection of growing media products and liquid feed range online with Crocus in April, making its unique organic, peat-free products available to gardeners via both the Crocus website and waitrosegarden.com.

The collaboration has been a huge success this season, with such a positive uptake of RocketGro’s products that Crocus has announced plans to further develop its relationship with the sustainable British brand.

Crocus Buyer, Laura Harb explained: “Crocus is really happy to be a stockist partner of RocketGro. We were really excited to start our collaboration, as both brands share the same drive for sustainability and the award-winning products suit our keen gardener customer really well.

“Our customers have responded so well to RocketGro across both the growing media products and the liquid feeds, that we are looking to continue to grow the relationship with Toby and the team at RocketGro.”

Managing Director, Toby Thomas said: “Launching our products with Crocus in 2024 has been a real boon for RocketGro, and we recognise that linking up with such a prominent online retailer is clearly a significant step forward in our journey.

“This has been an exciting development for RocketGro and it helps increase our exposure online, enabling us to reach even more customers. Crocus is very focused on sustainability and, therefore, the RocketGro eco story is a great fit for their business model, resulting in an extremely positive partnership. We are very pleased with the Crocus customer response to our products and we look forward to growing our sales with Crocus in 2025, helping more Crocus shoppers to embrace low carbon, peat-free and coir-free organic gardening.”

Crocus joins the ranks of retailers praising RocketGro’s products and detailing the overwhelming response they’ve had from customers, with several garden centres now describing RocketGro as their number-one-selling compost.

RocketGro boasts an impressive 24-strong portfolio of premium peat-free growing products, including its flagship Magic Mulch, best-sellingFruit & Veg Compost, Seed & Cutting Compost, and Multi-Purpose with added John Innes.

David Hurrion to create headline Showcase Garden at BBC Gardeners’ World Autumn Fair

Gardening writer and presenter, David Hurrion, will be designing the headline Showcase Garden at this year’s BBC Gardeners’ World Autumn Fair, taking place in association with English Heritage at Audley End House and Gardens in Essex (30 August - 1 September).

Gardening writer and presenter, David Hurrion, will be designing the headline Showcase Garden at this year’s BBC Gardeners’ World Autumn Fair, taking place in association with English Heritage at Audley End House and Gardens in Essex (30 August - 1 September).

The Raised Bed Revealed will be a celebration of the way that raised beds have revolutionised how we garden today. As David points out, raised beds aren’t just for growing vegetables. The garden will show how adaptable this growing method can be, by tailoring them to suit ornamental plants and to fit into the design and style of any plot, as well as benefiting the natural world and the gardener, too.

Designed by David exclusively for the BBC Gardeners’ World Autumn Fair, The Raised Bed Revealed Showcase Garden will feature raised beds at different heights for standard, wheelchair and standing height gardening. It will also demonstrate just how adaptable raised beds can be by incorporating productive veg and herb beds, an autumn colour border, a climate-proof patch, an exotic border, a plant-collector’s section and a raised lawn.

The garden celebrates the launch of David’s latest book, The Raised Bed Book, published by Dorling Kindersley in March this year. The book highlights innovative design ideas, planting schemes and ways to create the perfect growing conditions for plants,

David says: “The Raised Bed Revealed will bring to life some of the ways in which gardeners can elevate their growing which my new book lifts the lid on! Whether it’s making bespoke raised structures to suit your growing needs, keeping the soil in tip top health, tailoring growing conditions to suit the plants you want to grow, or making room for wildlife, there will be plenty to inspire your own designs at home.”

Lucy Tremlett, Head of Horticultural Division at Immediate Live, organisers of the BBC Gardeners’ World Autumn Fair, said: “David is a great friend of the BBC Gardeners’ World family as a regular presenter on our event stages. With his extensive plant knowledge, horticultural experience and expertise, we’re thrilled that David will be sharing his wonderful The Raised Bed Revealed design. For those of us that think raised beds are only for veg patches and allotments, I’m pretty sure David is going to change our minds forever!”

The BBC Gardeners’ World Autumn Fair, in association with English Heritage, takes place at Audley End House and Gardens from 30 August – 1 September. Highlights include a collection of inspiring new Showcase Gardens, Beautiful Borders, plant displays and the Association of Professional Landscapers’ Skills Competition gardens. The BBC Gardeners’ World Magazine Stage hosted by the magazine’s editors features seasonal gardening chat with Gardeners’ World TV presenters Adam Frost (Friday), Joe Swift (Saturday) and, new to the Fair, Rachel de Thame (Sunday). At the new Get Growing Stage, TV chef Marcus Bean (also new to the event) will be hosting a daily programme of sessions with expert produce growers. There are Plant Expert garden tours, hands-on autumn bouquet, mushroom growing, seed sowing and new bug hotel workshops, and historical performances to enjoy. There’s plant and garden shopping galore featuring many exhibitors that are new to the Fair, and plenty of great food and drink to enjoy and take home at the Good Food Market. Tickets include access to Audley End House, gardens and grounds. Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome in the grounds.

Advance adult prices for the BBC Gardeners’ World Autumn Fair start from £16.50 (concessions £15.50), or £13.50 for English Heritage adult members (£12 concessions). Find out more and book tickets at www.bbcgardenersworldfair.com. Details correct at time of writing.

Champion giant veg grower knows his onions

World record-breaking veg grower Gareth Griffin isn’t letting this year’s unseasonally wet weather deter him from showing his homegrown giant veg at the Harrogate Autumn Flower Show...

World record-breaking veg grower Gareth Griffin isn’t letting this year’s unseasonally wet weather deter him from showing his homegrown giant veg at the Harrogate Autumn Flower Show.

Staged by the North of England Horticultural Society (NEHS) at Newby Hall, Ripon 13-15 September, the autumn flower show attracts more than 30,000 visitors and showcases the best in garden produce and flowers.

Last year Gareth from Guernsey beat the previous world record with his giant onion which weighed in at 8.9kg (19.7lb). This year Gareth is hoping to take a super-sized cabbage and tomato to the show.

Fascination with growing giant veg competitively runs in the family and Gareth’s wife Wendy plans to enter a giant cucumber for judging.

Gareth said: “My efforts to surpass last year’s giant veg world record have unfortunately fallen foul of this year’s wet and dull weather which is not what onions like.

“There is no secret ingredient to success. It’s a matter of choosing the right seeds, giving them good soil and light and looking after them. Achieving the world record last year was the culmination of more than 30 years of trying and is no guarantee of future success.

“I was lucky that multi record-breaking Peter Glazebrook shared some onion seeds with me helping to set me on the path to success. You never really know how big your produce is going to be until the week of the show owing to factors such as pests and splitting so it is a tense time.

“The giant vegetable growing community is highly competitive, but it is a friendly rivalry and that is a big part of the appeal for me. My fellow enthusiasts were the first to congratulate me on breaking the world record and there is a real camaraderie, with growers sharing their seeds, tips and ideas.”

Success with his giant onion at last year’s show not only secured Gareth the world record but also internet fame, with more than 157,000 views of his entry on the Guiness Book of Records website.

Gareth said: “There is a lot of public interest in giant vegetables – particularly onions, pumpkins and tomatoes. I think it is because they capture the imagination, while being fundamentally the same as any regular sized vegetable found in all of our kitchens.”

Gareth plans to continue growing for long as he can. He says he enjoys looking forward and planning for the next season and it keeps him fit and active.

Taking centre stage at this year’s Harrogate Autumn Flower Show will be magnificent floral displays, delicious produce, expert gardening advice and fiercely contested competitions, including for giant fruit and veg.

Billed as an inspiration for gardeners of all abilities, visitors to the show can also enjoy Newby Hall's award-winning gardens, live talks and cookery demonstrations, great garden shopping and stunning floral art installations within historic Newby Hall itself.

The Harrogate Autumn Flower Show is one of two flower shows hosted annually by the NEHS, with the Spring Flower Show taking place in Harrogate in April. Last year’s Autumn Flower Show committed over £163,000 in support and promotion of the work of specialist societies and groups, and charitable horticultural organisations.

Tickets are £23 per person available online from https://www.flowershow.org.uk/

or £28 on the door. Admission includes access to Newby’s gardens which feature some of Europe’s biggest herbaceous flower borders, 15 stunning garden ‘rooms’ and family adventure garden.

British Garden Centres, the UK's largest family-owned garden centre group, is pleased to announce the acquisition of Langlands Garden Centres and its three stores: Shiptonthorpe, Whinmoor and Loxley. This expansion strengthens British Garden Centres' presence in Yorkshire and reflects the company's ongoing commitment to providing exceptional garden supplies and experiences to customers in the local community.

The purchase of these three established garden centres brings British Garden Centres’ total portfolio to 65 locations across the UK. The new stores will benefit from British Garden Centres' extensive buying power, allowing them to offer customers a wider selection of plants, garden care products, and homeware at competitive prices.

Similar to other BGC centres, the Loxley and Whinmoor stores will adopt local names. They will be rebranded as Sheffield and Leeds to better reflect their areas. Langlands in Shiptonthorpe will keep its current name, due to its rich heritage and history within the community.

Charles Stubbs, Founder and Director of British Garden Centres said: “We are thrilled to welcome the Langlands Garden Centre team and loyal customers to the British Garden Centres family. Langlands has a long-standing reputation for quality products, expert advice, and a dedication to the communities they serve, values that perfectly align with our own.”

James Ducker, Director of Langlands added: “I’m delighted that the centres and nursery are becoming part of the British Garden Centres family. We have been working with the BGC team for a few months now to ensure the transition is smooth for both the Langlands team members and our customers. My Grandad moved from Bingley to the site in Shiptonthorpe 60 years ago and the business has grown from there. I would like to pay tribute to my Mum and Dad who have worked so hard to make Langlands the success it is. We have the most amazing team and I’m sure that Langlands joining BGC will create huge opportunities for them. I’m pleased to be joining the British Garden Centres team and having a part in the future development of an amazing business.

“I will be building upon the success that British Garden Centres has had at flower shows, back to how I began my career in the horticulture industry.”

The new Langlands, Sheffield and Leeds Garden Centres will open seven days a week, 9 am – 5.30 pm on Monday to Saturday and 10.30 am – 4.30 pm on Sunday.

The Pot Place Garden Centre comes to market

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co is pleased to bring to market, The Pot Place Garden Centre near Penrith, Cumbria.

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co is pleased to bring to market, The Pot Place Garden Centre near Penrith, Cumbria.

Established over 20 years ago by Paul Thomas and Kevin Roper, this family-run business has become a popular destination for locals and tourists alike. The garden centre sits on a circa 2.75-acre plot, on the site of a former railway station, parallel to the M6 motorway and only 10 miles from the Lake District National Park. It features a specialist pot and garden building centre with a charming tea room, furniture centre, plants, and gift shop.

With Paul and Kevin now looking to retire and spend more time on their charity work, they have decided to market the business by way of a share sale for 100% shares of the limited company. The business would make an excellent lifestyle purchase or valuable addition to an existing portfolio, as the new owner is able to benefit from the strong and profitable contacts with worldwide producers of garden ceramics.

Commenting on their decision to sell, Paul said, “From our humble beginnings as a pot and planter centre, we’re very proud of the garden centre business that we’ve been able to build over the past 20 years, with the support of our wonderful team of staff. We have thoroughly enjoyed our time developing the business so the decision to sell has not been as easy one to make, however the time has come for us to take a step back and look to retire.

“Having put our heart and soul into The Pot Place, we are looking for an enthusiastic new owner who is willing to invest in the business to take it forward and look after our fantastic staff who have been instrumental in our success. We will wait for the right buyer and our many loyal customers should be reassured that it will be business as usual during the transition to new ownership.”

Andrew Birnie, Director in Christie & Co’s Retail & Garden Centre team, who is managing the sales process, comments, “We’re very pleased to be instructed to market this attractive garden centre and specialist pots and planters’ business on behalf of Paul and Kevin. The Pot Place attracts customers from across Cumbria and beyond due to its range of specialist products, including the garden building business which serves as a strong income driver. This is a special place to work, and I can’t think of many places that would be better to spend your working life, running a profitable business in the beautiful countryside, so close to the M6 for access and only a short drive to the Lakes. We look forward to finding the right buyer to take the business forward, building on the wonderful work of Paul, Kevin and their team.”

Leading global pest control manufacturer and supplier Pelsis Group has acquired Nottingham based garden care product manufacturer, Doff Portland, strengthening the group’s portfolio of leading retail, agricultural and professional brands.

Established in 1946, Doff Portland manufactures a number of leading brands and private label products for major retailers in the UK and EU. These brands include Doff, Portland Garden, Power Up and Green Fingers.

Speaking about the acquisition, Pelsis Group CEO Alex Ashmore said: ‘In Doff we have found a strong partner to complement our own well known retail brands and channels. The combined strengths of Pelsis' distribution network and Doff's product portfolio in the UK and Europe will make a powerful combination of brands and channels for our customers,’ he said. ‘We are excited to welcome the Doff team to the Pelsis family’.

Doff Portland becomes a wholly owned subsidiary with its 85 employees, customers and suppliers welcomed into the Pelsis Group.

The deal follows Pelsis’ recent acquisitions of Brandenburg (2022) and Sanitrade (2021) which focused on the Professional Pest Control categories, building and consolidating its world leading Insect Light Trap offer and wider professional distribution network. Commenting on the sale, Doff CEO Ben Shapiro said: ‘This acquisition presents a phenomenal opportunity for Doff.  There is a great fit in terms of our vision and values. Both businesses have been focussed on investing in their portfolios of environmentally responsible products for amateur and professional users.  This will continue and the combination will hugely benefit our employees and our customers as we find new opportunities for growth.’

Pelsis was advised by Alvarez & Marsal and DLA Piper.  Doff Portland was advised by Hill Dickinson and Cavendish.
