Glendoick marks centenary with gold at Gardening Scotland

Glendoick Gardens and Garden Centre was awarded a Royal Caledonian Horticultural Society Gold Medal for its exhibit at Gardening Scotland of rhododendrons, azaleas and woodland gardening.

Many of the plants exhibited were bred and named by Glendoick and the exhibit also included some new, as yet unnamed, plants.

Taking centre stage was the newly-launched rhododendron ‘Wonderred’ (pictured below), with amazing dark red flowers and red coloured under-leaves, launched for the Centenary Year of Glendoick Gardens; 100 years ago Euan Cox first set out on a plant hunting expedition to Burma, bringing back the first seeds that were to be the start of the business.

Ken Cox, owner and managing director of Glendoick, said: “I am absolutely thrilled to have been awarded a Gold medal in this our centenary year. The garden centre has grown year on year to become so much more than a garden centre but we never forget  the gardens and rhododendrons are at the very core of our business.”

Helping to build the award-winning stand was Ken’s son Jamie. Other members of staff were on hand all weekend giving advice and helping Gardening Scotland visitors with their plant choices.
