Work starts on new 250-seater restaurant at Notcutts Woodbridge

A ground-breaking ceremony marked the start of a major project to develop a new 250-seater restaurant at Notcutts at Woodbridge, Suffolk.

Caroline Notcutt, vice chairman, and Andrew Notcutt, non-executive director – both great-grandchildren of founder Roger Crompton Notcutt, were joined by Darren Brooks, general manager of the Woodbridge garden centre, and Chris Bruce, pre contracts director of Barnes Construction to mark the official start of construction works.

The new and enhanced restaurant aims to provide a modern, light and spacious dining experience for up to 250 people. It will also feature a new outdoor terrace for alfresco dining with views across the garden centre and The Notcutts Garden permanent display, which was designed and unveiled last summer to inspire local gardeners with creative planting ideas. Completion is scheduled towards the end of the year.

Caroline Notcutt, Vice Chairman of Notcutts Garden Centres, said: "Woodbridge is where it all began for Notcutts, with my Great-Grandfather purchasing the nursery site here in 1897. Woodbridge was Notcutts first garden centre which opened in 1958 on the same site as it stands today. This garden centre holds a special place in my heart, and it has been an honour to see it flourish and grow over the years. I am thrilled to celebrate the start of construction on this new restaurant, which will enhance the overall experience for visitors."

Darren Brooks said it was an exciting milestone. “We very much look forward to unveiling the new restaurant, which will cater for the growing demand and give customers a fresh, relaxed and contemporary dining experience.”
