David Austin Roses gives back after successful season

David Austin Roses enters the season of giving by donating £100,000 to its chosen health-based charities this year.

Since the spring as part of its Positive Planting initiative, the rose breeder has been busy raising donations through sales of the Generous Gardener (Ausdrawn), Princess Alexandra of Kent (Ausmerchant) and the new Nye Bevan (Auspital) rose.

Over £30,000 will be donated to each of the company’s chosen 2021 charities - The National Garden Scheme, the Alexandra Rose Charity and NHS Charities Together - towards their invaluable work in supporting the health and wellbeing of their beneficiaries.

As part of the initiative, the team at David Austin planted 21 roses at hospices around the country in partnership with the National Garden Scheme. Alongside its usual community planting commitments, the company was honoured to be in involved in the inauguration of the new sensory gardens at Bedwellty House in Tredegar, Wales, home of Nye Bevan’s political career, with the planting of a bed of stunning, newly introduced ‘Nye Bevan’ roses.

Of the company’s fundraising efforts this year, Richard Austin commented:

“It has been wonderful throughout this season to know our work has helped to raise much needed funds for such vital causes. Roses and health have always been interlinked and it has been a privilege to support our chosen health-based charities this year, alongside the many others we have supported over the years. We thank our customers for planting positively with us and enabling us to make such a significant contribution.”
