Fryers launch two charity roses at Hampton Court Garden Festival

Fryer’s Roses, part of the Blue Diamond Group, launched two new roses at this year’s RHS Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival, which closes today (Sunday 7 July).

‘Reach for the Stars’ (left) will help to raise funds on behalf of Alder Hey Children’s Charity and ‘Friends’ on behalf of the Greenfingers charity.

‘Reach for the Stars’ is a large flowered, climbing, nostalgic style of rose whose colour changes from apricot-yellow to peach when opening. Disease resistant and with a rich, sweet-spice fragrance, it can be trained up pillars or pergolas or grown as a shrub rose to a height of 2-3m. £1 from every sale through Fryer’s Roses online and Blue Diamond Garden Centres will be donated to benefit Alder Hey, one of Europe’s biggest and busiest children’s hospitals.

The proceeds will support the children’s wishes for a green Alder Hey by helping to enhance the distinctive outdoor play decks on the hospital wards. Enjoyed by young patients and their families, these safe, open spaces allow the children to enjoy playing outdoors even when they are being treated in hospital for long periods.

‘Friends’ (pictured right) celebrates the work of Greenfingers charity, which has launched an initiative to encourage supporters to become Friends of the charity.

The hybrid tea rose, with buttercup-yellow flowers against dark green, glossy foliage, has a mid-strength fragrance and grows to around 90cm.

Greenfingers is dedicated to supporting life-limited children and their families who spend time in hospices around the UK by creating well-designed outdoor spaces for play or therapeutic rest and relaxation. To date, Greenfingers Charity has created 57 inspiring gardens in children’s hospices around the country and is planning to open more later this year.  The charity will receive £1 from each Friends rose sold.
