Garden Maker’s Day at The English Gardening School
Rosemary Alexander and The English Gardening School look forward to welcoming gardeners of all levels to this year’s Garden Maker’s Day.

To be held at The Chelsea Physic Garden on Thursday, November 17, this is a rare and exciting opportunity to learn from the experts and a great pre–Christmas treat.  A light lunch and refreshments are included.

This Year’s Speakers: Arne Maynard, Diarmuid Gavin and Julian & Isabel Bannerman

Arne Maynard’s unique garden design style responds to the surrounding landscape, using bold lines and an architectural framework to divide the space into separate areas. To counterbalance these formal lines he creates soft inner plantings of herbaceous plants and roses. In his own garden in Monmouthshire he has practised what he preaches, creating an unusual and delightful garden around the beautiful medieval tower house.

Often considered a slightly eccentric Irishman, Diarmuid Gavin is always a designer to challenge expectations.  At times controversial, Diarmuid was responsible for the 2016 Harrods Eccentric British Garden.  His past gardens at Chelsea have always provoked discussion and set new limits for unusual design features.  He will share with us about what inspires his work, the critical and tense build up to Chelsea and also about his unique Chelsea Show gardens.

Julian and Isabel Bannerman have been designing gardens since 1983, using skilled craftsmen to build dramatic features, such as the Stumpery at Highgrove and the new Earl’s Garden at Arundel Castle. Their many commissions and awards show their passion for plants and gardens, both private and public and are described in their new book.  On this lecture day they will share the reasoning behind their designs.  Lots of inspirational ideas, glimpses of rarely open gardens and superb craftsmanship.
