Keter continues sustainability drive with community project

Keter, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of home and garden products, has launched its ‘Community Connection’ initiative, reinforcing its commitment to its ongoing sustainability drive.

Keter hosted a series of litter picking events in Banbury and Cornwall. Sixty-five employees at its sites, which spanned across all areas of the business including production, warehouse, office, and sales, all joined together to help clean up the local areas.

In Banbury, the team marked the start of ‘World Clean-Up Day’ and litter picked in the town’s Spiceball Country Park and its vicinity, meanwhile in Cornwall, to coincide with the start of the ‘Great British Beach Clean’ event, employees helped clean up Portreath Beach.

Across the two events, the Keter teams picked up enough rubbish to fill five Keter Store It Out storage units, the equivalent of nearly 6000L. The company plans to recycle any suitable resin collected for use in its production.

The Community Connection initiative is another step forward in Keter’s ongoing sustainability drive, after the company aims to meet five transformational pledges by 2025. These include:

  1. 55% of recycled content in total production
  2. Continued zero production of single-use plastic consumer products
  3. 25% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from production
  4. Zero waste to landfill from production
  5. Product end of life programmes in all regions

Kerry Murfin, Keter Marketing Director Europe, says: “Sustainability sits at the heart of the Keter business, so it’s really important to us that we connect with the community and play a part in helping to protect the environment.

"Our Community Connection initiative reinforces our commitment to being environmentally conscious after we set ourselves stringent targets within our five sustainability pledges last year. Together, we can help make a positive impact for the future to try and achieve a more sustainable world.”

Keter has also recently been named as a finalist in the Business Culture Awards in the Best Learning Initiative and Best Wellbeing Initiative categories. Winners are set to be announced on Tuesday 5th October 2021.
