Zest enables Motor Neurone sufferer to conquer Snowdon

Managing Director of garden furniture, grow your own and decorative garden structure specialist, Zest, Steve Morgan along with fellow fundraiser for motor neurone disease research, Robert Boyns of Boyns Information Systems Ltd joined forces to support MND sufferer Ian Flatt as he and his team took on Snowdon.

Ian, who had always wanted to scale the iconic mountain, was tackling the terrain in a custom-built off-road wheelchair while his team of helpers carried ramps and used a pulley system to enable him to manoeuvre over the rougher ground.

Steve had Robert who recently raised over £28,500 for motor neurone research by completing the Doddie Cup 500 set off with Ian at 9.30 am and despite the poor weather at the start completed the challenge by 7pm.  Steve and Robert, both familiar with the terrain, supported Ian’s team by helping to carry the ramps for much of the way, describing themselves as the ‘Welsh pit ponies’, while teammates helping Ian with the wheelchair were the ‘true workers’.

Commenting on the day, Steve Morgan said, “It was an extremely hard challenge but worthwhile for such a great charity; and it was humbling and inspiring to see Ian’s courage and good humour throughout.

“Despite the weather being very changeable at the start, the sun came out on the way back down and the views started opening up - Snowdon looked magnificent.”

Steve and Robert are part of a team of former rugby players raising funds for the My Name’s Doddie Foundation whose vision is: A World Free of MND. Doddie Weir OBE is one of rugby’s most recognisable personalities. He earned sixty-one caps for Scotland during a successful playing career, represented the British and Irish Lions on their successful tour to South Africa in 1997, and won championships with his two club sides, Melrose, and Newcastle Falcons.  Anyone wishing to make donations in support of the My Name’s Doddie Foundation can do so here.

Over the last eleven years, Zest employees and their P&A Group colleagues have raised more than £100,000 for a variety of charities including Macmillan Cancer Support, Hope House and Tŷ Gobaith Children’s Hospices, Cancer Research UK, Action for Children, Alzheimer’s Society, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and Meningitis Now.  Zest was established in 2005 to bring high quality, sustainable
