Mince pies for charity runners...courtesy of Tong Garden Centre

Tong Garden Centre at Bradford donated 600 mince pies to runners participating in a recent charity race.

The centre's head baker, Lee Parnham, and his team of three crafted the pies for the second sellout Bah Humbug 10k race last weekend.

Mr Parnham, a keen runner and member of the South Leeds Lakers, said: “Ours is a free to join club and the race is a fundraiser to help fund coaching at the club. The money raised from last year's event helped to set up a Junior Lakers Club, which currently has over 50 members.

“Supporting our community and encouraging people to spend time outdoors is important to the team at Tong, so we're delighted to help by donating these festive treats.”

Last year's run, on a hilly, multi-terrain  route through Middleton Woods, starting from the South Leeds Stadium, was a sell-out of 450 people so another 100 places were added this year.

The Bah Humbug 10k is organised by a number of groups including the South Leeds Lakers Running Club, Hunslet Rugby Foundation, Morley Running Club and the South Leeds Sisters Running Club. The proceeds are equally distributed between them.

Tong Garden Centre also donated a 3m Christmas tree to Springwell Academy, a Leeds school for pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs. Pupils and visitors to will use it to share their Christmas wishes.
