As well as redesigning the complete Gardman Crest range with sustainability in mind we've also been working on making sure our packaging also ticks the sustainability box.
At present 86% of our packaging is recyclable and we are now working to a target of 96% being recyclable in the next three years.
According to WRAP, the Waste and Resources Action Programme, there are eight problematic plastics that could be eliminated in the UK by the end of 2020, as more and more businesses are working with the ‘UK Plastics Pact’ with WRAP.
If plastic is single use only and not reusable or recyclable, this hampers the recycling process or pollutes our environment. It is these plastics that need to be cut out of daily life:
1. Disposable plastic cutlery
2. Straws
3. Polystyrene packaging
4. Cotton buds with plastic stems
5. Plastic stirrers
6. Oxo-degradables (that break down and create microplastics)
7. PVC packaging
WRAP's aim is by 2025 to have 100% of plastic packaging to be reusable, recyclable or compostable. Many retailers have signed up to this pact and we all need to do our bit as UK businesses whether joining the pact or not to start to adhere to guidelines and not become part of Britain’s landfill problem.
Here at Gardman Crest we have made huge leaps towards the 2025 target and will continue to develop products and packaging that comply with the best use plastics pact.
