New for 2023 – liquid boost for in-demand plants

Popular, in-demand plants – Hydrangeas and Buxus – will benefit from the launch of two new liquid feeds in 2023 as Vitax adds to its specialist liquid feed range to help meet the nutritious needs of the two garden favourites.

Developed specifically for gardeners and customers who prefer an easy-to-use liquid feed, Liquid Hydrangea Feed and Liquid Buxus Feed received a huge response from visitors to Glee this year, proving to be just as popular as the specialist feed pouches.

The new liquid feeds will meet the demand for plant-specific products, while enabling garden centres and nurseries make that all important linked-sale as the product can be displayed right next to the plant.

“Whilst good, multi-purpose feeds are still popular with gardeners and consumers, the demand for specialist feeds to meet the specific nutritious needs of popular plants continues to grow, which is evident from pre-season sales and the response we received at Glee,” says Mark Butler, national sales manager at Vitax.

“The specialist pouches have been a huge hit, especially for plants such as hydrangeas and buxus, and the new liquid feeds makes gardening easy for those who want to give their plants an added boost as part of their watering regime.”

Getting the right balance of nutrients is important for good plant health with both new products helping gardeners make the most of their much-loved plants.

Liquid Hydrangea Feed has been formulated to ensure hydrangeas thrive in all types of soils and is especially well suited to hydrangeas grown in pots as well as those grown in garden beds.

Ideal for use in peat-free composts, free-draining growing media and soil with varying pH, Liquid Hydrangea Feed contains all the essential nutrients required for vibrant and strong healthy growth. Potash has been added to encourage abundant blooms, nitrogen for strong growth and rich leaf colour. Low-levels of iron and manganese have also been added to the formulation to ensure the availability of trace elements – essential for chlorophyll production.

Liquid Buxus Feed is the second new addition to the liquid feed range, created to help gardeners keep their common box or buxus in tip-top condition.

Ideal for buxus planted in pots and containers or in the ground, it contains nitrogen for strong growth and added magnesium to enhance chlorophyll production for luscious, rich, dark green foliage. The addition of both nitrogen and magnesium helps to produce stronger buxus, maximising growth and strengthening natural defences to prevent and fight disease.

The change of season also sees a change in product demand as gardeners focus on protecting trees, plants and shrubs and adding nutrients back into the ground to prepare for spring.

Liquid feeds and composts still remain popular, but as the wintery weather takes hold, seasonal products come into their own. From Winter Wash to Tree Bands, Vitax’s top winter best-sellers include:

Vitax Winter Tree Wash

A blend of natural plant and fish oils, Vitax Winter Tree Wash removes dirt, debris and wax which insects use to secure eggs to the tree or plant.

Best applied from November through to February, it is suitable for organic gardens and can be used to control larvae and eggs laid by insects such as greenfly, whitefly and blackfly.

Vitax Tree Bands

Providing protection for fruit and ornamental trees against winter moth caterpillars, ants and other crawling insects, Vitax Tree Bands are a cost-effective barrier that can cover 10-12 average-sized fruit trees.

Pesticide free and non-hazardous, the non-drying adhesive traps pests before they can lay their eggs, protecting the trees against spring infestations.

Vitax Fruit Tree Grease

Ideally applied early autumn, Vitax Fruit Tree Grease is still a popular winter deterrent. Containing rapeseed oil, the tree grease protects against pests such as winter moth and mottled umber moth.

Q4 Rootmore

Root ball season always sees a surge in demand for Q4 Rootmore. Containing a blend of mycorrhizal fungi, seaweed and biostimulants to create healthier plants, it is ideal for root ball plants such as trees and shrubs, roses and fruit canes as it stimulates intensive root growth when the weather gets warmer.

6X Pelleted Poultry Manure

Six to eight times richer than farmyard manure, 6X Pelleted Poultry Manure is a gardener’s natural fertiliser of choice when it comes to nutrient replenishment.

Highly concentrated, only a handful of pellets are required as it feeds the soil rather than the plant. A staple product for organic gardeners.

SBK Tree Stump Killer

A glyphosate-free option, SBK Tree Stump Killer kills tree stumps at the root to prevent re-growth. Intended for use in grassland and non-crop areas, apply during autumn and winter when the sap is not rising.

Don’t get out-foxed and fall foul to the destructive nature of foxes and other animals with Vitax’s new deterrent.

Foxes can wreak havoc and cause extensive damage to the garden and outdoor areas throughout the year, but Stay Off Fox Deterrent will help keep them at bay.

A completely humane repellant that will not harm wildlife or plants, Stay Off Fox Deterrent is available as a ready-to-use spray that works by emitting an odour that foxes and other domestic animals find unpleasant.

Odourless to humans, the new deterrent is ideal for use around bins, lawns, patios, paths and garden beds as well as ornamental borders and driveways.

Easy to use, simply spray Stay Off Fox Deterrent immediately after the first signs of damage or fouling. Before application, rinse the area with a weak detergent and allow to dry before applying.

Stay Off Fox Deterrent is not systemic, therefore reapplication may also be required on plant re-growth. If rain occurs before the spray has dried, then reapplication will be necessary.

Put pests in their place with Nippon

Nippon is helping homeowners put unwanted pests in their place and continue to keep them at bay as they become a year-round problem...

Nippon is helping homeowners put unwanted pests in their place and continue to keep them at bay as they become a year-round problem.

As one of the UK’s leading pest control brands, Nippon has built an enviable reputation as one of the ‘go to’ brands across a wide range of products which provide a cost-effective, do-it-yourself pest control solution.

Whether you’re plagued with ants or wasps, or tackling rodents or moths, there is a product for every situation.

Nippon’s well-established ant control range is a firm favourite amongst homeowners and consists of six products.

A tried and tested best seller, Nippon Ant Killer Powder is highly effective on ants and other crawling insects and can be used both in and outside the home. Users simply puff the powder down cracks or skirting.  Long lasting, one application can last up to six months.

Homeowners looking for a more discreet pest control system need look no further than the Nippon Ant Bait Station. Using a fully enclosed, ready-to-use liquid bait, it attracts ants into the station which then take the liquid back to the nest. A simple, mess-free solution, its fully-enclosed unit prevents pets and children easily accessing the bait.

Nippon’s reputation is evident in the depth of its range as Mark Butler, national sales manager at Vitax, explains: “Nippon is trusted by generations of homeowners and a recognisable household name. It has not only built a reputation as a leading pest control brand, but one that is good value for money and more importantly – effective.

“The popularity of Nippon is clear to see. Sales are strong and we see homeowners return to these products time and time again."

Nippon also has a range of fly, moth and wasp solutions.  Nippon’s wasp range consists of three products: Nippon Disposable Wasp Trap, Nippon Wasp Nest Destroyer Foam and Nippon Wasp Nest Powder.

Nippon Wasp Nest Destroyer Foam is a powerful, fast-acting aerosol spray which can be applied from a distance of three metres to enable homeowners to treat wasps from a safe distance.

Nippon’s Rodenticide range includes the popular Nippon Ready To Use Mouse Killer Bait Station. A highly effective way to control mice without the need to touch the bait, the stations are tamper-resistant – ideal for homes with inquisitive children and pets. The stations are great value for money as they can be refilled and ideal for use both in and outdoors.

“Nippon enables homeowners to manage pests both within the home and outdoors, all year round. Best-sellers include the Ant Control range and Bait Stations as they tackle two of the most common household pests – ants and rodents – but we are continually investing in new products to meet the demands of customers facing new pest control issues," says Mark.

SBK gets to the root of the problem

Tough woody weeds and brambles feature in most gardens and are difficult to get under control or to remove completely, which is why SBK Tough Weedkiller is a firm favourite amongst gardeners looking for a weed-free garden...

Tough woody weeds and brambles feature in most gardens and are difficult to get under control or to remove completely, which is why SBK Tough Weedkiller is a firm favourite amongst gardeners looking for a weed-free garden.

Well-known for its ability to tackle the toughest of weeds, unlike other products, SBK is the only triple-action, non-glyphosate systemic weedkiller which travels through the weed to kill it at the root and prevent regrowth.

Containing Triclopyr, SBK will kill tough woody weeds, brambles and nettles. As it targets weeds and not grass, it is safe to use on weeds in both non-crop and grassy areas.

The SBK range also includes SBK Tree Stump Killer which has been formulated to not only kill tree stumps, but hardwood saplings.

Fast and convenient to use, SBK should be applied from May to October when the soil is moist. For stubborn weeds, SBK can be re-applied after six weeks. SBK also only needs to applied once or twice to take full effect, with a maximum of just two applications per season.

SBK is available as a ready-to-use spray or concentrate.
