PATS has announced that Birmingham Dogs Home will be its chosen charity for 2025.
The Pet and Aquatics Trade Show will be taking place at the NEC Birmingham for the first time from Sunday, 28th September to Tuesday, 30th September 2025.
As the chosen charity, Birmingham Dogs Home will receive donated products from the popular New Product Showcase at the end of the exhibition as well as further donations from PATS exhibitors.
Birmingham Dogs Home cares 24 hours a day, every day of the year for stray, abandoned and relinquished dogs from across the West Midlands and South Staffordshire.
The organisation has been at the forefront of animal welfare for the Midlands for almost 130 years and is one of the region’s oldest and best loved animal welfare charities.
Birmingham Dogs Home can only survive through the generosity and support of the general public and benefactors from the local community. Without donations it would be unable to carry on the vital work of rescuing and re-homing abandoned dogs.
Sophie Evans, corporate partnerships officer at Birmingham Dogs Home, said: “We are thrilled to partner with PATS, whose generous support aligns perfectly with our mission of providing compassionate care to dogs in need. This partnership is a testament to the shared commitment to animal welfare, and we are incredibly grateful for the donated products that will directly enhance the well-being of the dogs at our shelters.
“Thanks to PATS' contributions, we will be able to enrich the lives of the dogs in our care by improving their comfort and daily experiences. From cosy bedding and nutritious food to stimulating toys, these resources will make a tangible difference in their journey toward finding loving forever homes.
“At Birmingham Dogs Home, we believe that every dog deserves a second chance, and partnerships like this help us bring that vision to life.
“We hope that this collaboration will inspire other businesses to support our cause, strengthening our network of corporate partners dedicated to making a positive impact on animal welfare.”
PATS 2025 will be staged in Hall 1 of the NEC and will be able to accommodate up to 500 UK and international exhibitors.
“We have chosen Birmingham Dogs Home as our 2025 charity because of the amazing work carried out by the organisation’s dedicated team,” said PATS event director Gordon Thomas.
“As PATS will be bigger than ever next year, we’re hopeful that many more products will be donated to Birmingham Dogs Home.”

Simon Lewis-Dale, head of business development, commented: “PATS 2024 was the best UK trade show I have attended in 20 years – it had a great buzz about it. Moving to the NEC will no doubt increase the number of visitors and looking at the exhibitor list, it’s going to be packed with lots of current and new suppliers as well. Having the Aquatics Zone plus Beta International on at the same time make this event a must for the trade.”
Fold Hill Foods is another company planning to exhibit multiple brands at PATS 2024. “We will be showcasing Ruffingtons, Laughing Dog Food, Pointer, and the newly acquired Brambles as well as our co-manufacturing and white label services,” said senior marketing executive Cassandra Brennan. “We will have a full team on-hand to discuss all of our offerings, and with a new venue and a bigger stand we are looking forward to a busy show.”

On top of this we have new treats from Sir Woofchester's and Wonderful World of Treats plus a new version of the CleanyTeeth toothbush which is even more powerful and easier to use.”

The show allows us to both connect with current customers and meet new ones.”
The Aquatics Zone, a dedicated area for aquatics, watergardening and reptile exhibitors, is returning to PATS after a successful launch in 2024, and it will also host major companies exhibiting multiple brands.
ALF will be showcasing popular brands like Velda, Seachem, Sicce, Vitalis, Aquael, Hugo Kamishi, JBL, Ocean Nutrition and EHEIM. “We will have representatives from around the world giving demonstrations and answering any questions on all our ranges. This year, we are proud to be showcasing two incredible brands – Gioia Shrimp and Aquatlantis – alongside our own offerings.”

Johnson’s Veterinary Products has exhibited at every PATS show since the exhibition launched in 2009. Here, the award-winning brand explains why it thinks PATS is such an important date in the pet trade calendar...
PATS 2025 will stage the biggest event in its 16-year history when it moves to its new home of Hall 1 of the NEC Birmingham in September.
The Pet and Aquatics Trade Show will host more than 400 exhibitors at the event, which takes place over three days from Sunday, 28th September to Tuesday 30th September 2025.
Johnson’s Veterinary Products has exhibited at every PATS show since the exhibition launched in 2009 and knows the value of showcasing its new products at the event.
Here, the award-winning brand explains why it thinks PATS is such an important date in the pet trade calendar.
What are your recollections of the first PATS show at Sandown Park in 2009?
There was a real sense of buzz and enthusiasm surrounding the introduction of the new show format and its Southern location, which offered improved accessibility for retailers in that region. Attendance was strong and the event generated a lot of interest.
Can you remember what new products you unveiled at that first show?
The spotlight was on our flagship 4fleas® range along with the Clean ‘n’ Safe® and comprehensive shampoo ranges, all of which were showcased prominently as core offerings at the event (see picture above).
How has Johnson’s Veterinary Products developed since that first show?
Since then, Johnson’s has expanded significantly in both company size and product portfolio. We've consistently introduced new innovations that respond to evolving market trends. A major milestone was celebrating our centenary in 2021 – a proud moment marking 100 years of supporting pet owners and retailers.
Do you think exhibiting at every PATS show over the past 16 years has helped that development?
Absolutely! Exhibiting regularly at PATS has been instrumental in reinforcing our brand presence and underlining our ongoing dedication to independent pet shops across the UK. It’s been particularly valuable in championing pet healthcare, an area that often doesn’t get the spotlight it deserves in keeping our pets happy and healthy.
Have you got a highlight from exhibiting at PATS?
There are countless standout moments – probably too many to single out just one! And a few we probably shouldn’t share here.
You’ve always been a keen supporter of the independent pet retailer, is that why you launched National Pet Shop Day™?
Yes, that was the key motivation. For over a century, we’ve supported independent pet shops across the UK, recognising their role in offering knowledgeable advice and services. National Pet Shop Day™ was created to honour their dedication and our way of giving back too. Now in its second year, and supported this year by national bodies PIF (Pet Industry Federation) and Bira (British Independent Retailers Association), the initiative continues to shine a spotlight on the passion and commitment of these local pet businesses. It's a celebration of the value of independent pet shops, not just as suppliers, but as pet health and wellbeing hubs offering trusted advice and meaningful customer care.
How successful has that campaign been?
The response has been incredible. In its first year, over 200 pet shops took part in a variety of ways – from community events to customer promotions – driving both loyalty and footfall. Momentum has only grown, with over 400 retailers already signed up for this year’s event. The 2025 campaign, launching on Saturday 12th July, is shaping up to be the biggest yet, thanks to enthusiastic support from both the pet product retailers and partners like PIF and Bira, who share our mission to drive more footfall to the high street and champion these businesses. And with every shop putting its own spin on the festivities, members of the public can look forward to even more creativity and fun-filled events across the UK, from special offers, expert drop-ins, competitions, parties and plenty of treats, for pets and their people alike. To find out more, visit our website at nationalpetshopday.com
How much are you looking forward to this year’s show in Hall 1 at the NEC?
We’re thrilled to be exhibiting at the NEC. Being based in Birmingham, it’s right on our doorstep, which makes it extra convenient. We’re really looking forward to being part of the largest PATS show yet, reconnecting with friends and industry partners, and taking in all the excitement that comes with it.
Will you be unveiling new products at the show?
Yes, we’re excited to present our latest addition – Guardian® plus, an affordable pet healthcare range designed to complement our trusted and best-selling 4fleas® products. This new veterinary-strength, triple-action spot-on treatment for cats and dogs effectively tackles fleas, ticks, and lice, while also breaking the life cycle by preventing the development of eggs and larvae. The Guardian® plus range also includes our Guardian® Home Flea Spray, providing total protection in the home environment. Together, they offer an affordable, comprehensive solution for pet owners, combining ease of use with proven effectiveness.
Is it true Johnson’s Veterinary Products hasn’t missed a national trade exhibition during the past 50 years?
Johnson's Veterinary Products is proud of the fact it has never missed a national pet trade show since 1971 (see photo above of the first National Trade Show in Harrogate 1971). We don’t think any other company can lay claim to such a distinguished consecutive appearance record.
Make sure you don’t miss PATS 2025 where Johnson’s Veterinary Products will be on stand B43. Register for your free entry at www.patshow.co.uk now.

PATS 2025 is set to have a strong international presence at this year’s three-day event with a growing number of pet buyers and exhibitors from across the globe expected to attend.
The Pet & Aquatics Trade Show takes place at its new home – Hall 1 of the NEC Birmingham – from Sunday, 28th September to Tuesday, 30th September with the exhibition showcasing new products from more than 400 brands.
In a move to boost interest with international buyers, the PATS team travelled to Bologna in Italy to exhibit in the British Pavilion at Zoomark, where PATS event director Gordon Thomas gave a talk on ‘The importance of the UK pet and aquatics market’.
A further initiative to drive PATS footfall involves an exciting collaboration with Zoomark and CIPS, the international trade exhibition, with joint marketing and promotional activity across all three shows.
“Our primary aim for exhibiting at international shows is to meet, talk to and encourage international retailers and distributors to come to PATS,” said Gordon Thomas.
“We know that UK pet products sell very strongly around the world and representatives from international pet companies can see the advantage of meeting up with British suppliers all under one roof.
“They agree that PATS is the perfect destination to discover what’s new in the market for the year ahead, and an ideal opportunity to talk to UK-based manufacturers and suppliers.”
With its proximity to Birmingham airport, the NEC is an ideal location for international visitors. There is a good choice of hotels in the area to fit all budgets, and a wide range of purpose-built catering facilities to suit all tastes.
PATS will be working closely with trade association PetQuip to ensure renewed interest from international buyers, starting at Zoomark on 5-7 May 2025.
PetQuip will also be hosting the International Buyers’ Centre and supporting the New Starter Zone at PATS 2025, plus holding its prestigious PetQuip Awards ceremony at the nearby National Conference Centre during the exhibition.
Registration for visitors is now open on the PATS website www.patshow.co.uk so all pet retailers and buyers can now sign up for their free show entry.

PATS will run over three days from Sunday 28th to Tuesday 30th September, and will bring together over 400 brands and the leading names in pet, aquatic, watergardening and reptile suppliers.

German business sera Group, a manufacturer of innovative and high-quality products for aquariums, garden ponds, and terrariums, is one of the latest suppliers to join the ever-growing list of Aquatics Zone exhibitors.
The company will use PATS 2025 as a platform to exhibit its vast product ranges, including the Blagdon and Aquagarden brands it acquired from Interpet recently.
Jorge Rivas, sera’s sales manager for Europe, said: “We are thrilled to participate in this year’s PATS – especially as it marks our first joint appearance in the UK following the exciting merger of sera and Interpet.
“This union brings together sera’s long-standing expertise in high-quality food, treatments, and filter media with Interpet’s strengths in pond and aquarium technology and conditioners.
“This new chapter combines decades of expertise, passion, and innovation in fish care. We are looking forward to meeting our partners and customers, showcasing the strength of our newly founded group, and shaping the future of the industry together. See you at PATS!”
As well as being a clearly defined area within PATS, the Aquatics Zone will again have its own dedicated New Product Showcase and Awards, which will be judged by industry experts and retailers under the following three categories:
Indoor
Outdoor
Reptile
With a dynamic mix of new product launches, networking opportunities, and business development potential, PATS 2025 continues to be the must-attend event for the pet, aquatics, watergardening and reptile sectors.

Winning a New Product Award at the Pet & Aquatics Trade Show can have a tremendous impact on the fortunes of a PATS exhibitor. It can help turn a new launch into a bestselling item in pet stores around the country and clinch that all-important export deal.
One of the main reasons why the Award is held in such high regard is because it is decided by a panel of independent retailers, who know what it takes for a product to fly off the shelves.
The New Product Showcase at PATS 2025, which takes place from Sunday 28th September to Tuesday, 30th September, in Hall 1 of the NEC Birmingham, is always a popular feature with visitors, and this year’s three-day exhibition is set to attract a record number of entries.
Here three companies who triumphed in the New Products Awards at PATS 2024 reveal what the accolade has done for their business.
Case Study No 1
LickiMat® – Winner of Cat Accessories & Toys with LickiMat® Kitty
Heidi Luedecke, Marketing Director of LickiMat®, said: “As a brand that has often been associated with dogs, we were so pleased to win a PATS New Product Award in 2024 with our LickiMat® Kitty. We are a brand that equally loves and supports both cats and dogs and winning the award helped us demonstrate this part of our mission even more. PATS is recognised across the pet industry, and with record-breaking entries last year, we were honoured to be among the winners.”
Do you think the award has helped to elevate your winning product in terms of exposure?
“Winning this award for our LickiMat® Kitty has most definitely elevated the exposure of this product in our range. With recently designed and launched cat-specific products, we were so delighted to know that the new LickiMat® specifically for kittens was recognised as a key new product in our range for cat owners.”
Have you used the award to promote the product?
“We have been thrilled to use the fact that the LickiMat® Kitty was a winner with the PATS New Product Award in 2024 as a point of conversation with our customers. This has been particularly important on our social media channels where we engage primarily directly with customers worldwide, and also in conversations (online and in person) with our retailers and wholesalers.”
Will you be entering this year’s New Product Showcase?
“Yes, we have some new and exciting products coming soon and look forward to submitting them in the PATS New Product Showcase at the NEC Birmingham in 2025.”
Case Study No 2
Donald Cooke – Winner of Dog Treat Products with Pick N Mix Training Treat Pots (K9 Chew Co) and Grooming Products with Tick Twister Clip Box 3 Piece
Simon Lewis-Dale, head of business development at Donald Cooke, said: “Winning the awards at PATS for both K9 Chew Co and Tick Twister was a massive honour for both of the brands. To get the recognition for developing products that both the panel of judges and subsequently customers recognise as best in class, certainly gives the business a confidence boost.”
Do you think the award has helped to elevate your winning product in terms of exposure?
“Both K9 Chew Co and Tick Twister have seen really strong growth since the award win and it spurred us on to develop our new trade portal to help make the ranges more available to the UK pet trade at www.donaldcooke.co.uk.”
Have you used the award to promote the product?
“We have used the awards both here in the UK and internationally with Tick Twister to help give the buyer that little bit more confidence in trying the products out. We also have the awards in pride of place at our head office as well.”
Will you be entering this year’s New Product Showcase?
“Absolutely, yes. Straight after PATS 2024 we began working on ranges to try to excite the trade again.”
Case Study No 3
Dog & Bond – Winner of New Starter Zone Award with Make-Your-Own Dog Treats (Cheese & Super Seaweed)
Avi Nagel, founder of Dog & Bond, said: “Winning the PATS New Product Award was a huge milestone for Dog & Bond. Having expert judges from the pet industry recognise our product was a strong signal that there’s real appetite for the kind of meaningful experiences we aim to create. For some, the idea of making treats at home might sound strange, but we believe it’s a joyful, healthy way to understand what we’re feeding our dogs. It meant the world to have the judges get that – and love it too.”
Do you think the award has helped to elevate your winning product in terms of exposure?
“Absolutely. As a young brand, having the PATS endorsement instantly boosted our credibility, especially with new stockists. We’re confident in our products, but when retailers see that we’ve been recognised at PATS, it opens doors and builds trust much faster.”
Have you used the award to promote the product?
“Yes, it’s front and centre in our brand story. We include the PATS Award in our marketing materials, trade decks, and even on our packaging. For customers and retailers alike, it’s a clear sign that our products aren’t just fun and healthy – they’ve been tried, tested, and celebrated by real experts.
Will you be entering this year’s New Product Showcase?
Definitely! We’ve just launched a pumpkin-based gut health supplement – an all-natural, prebiotic powder that supports digestion. Like everything we do, it’s designed to be simple, effective, and shelf-ready, making it a win for pet parents and retailers alike. I’m sure it will be a hit.”
