Blue Cap Coffee to supply Lavazza BLUE to Hillview Garden Centres
"A good garden centre café can contribute up to 50% of turnover...”

Blue Cap Coffee has announced a supply agreement of Lavazza BLUE Coffee Concept with the Hillview Garden Centre Group.

Littleheath in Bromsgrove is the most recent addition to the fast growing Hillview GC Group set up by Boyd Douglas-Davies in 2011 and the first of the group to adopt the increasingly popular Lavazza BLUE Coffee system.  Blue Cap Coffee is the nominated distributor of this Lavazza concept in the UK and their service is ideally placed to help garden centre cafés take advantage of the increasing demand for quality coffee.

Offering a free on loan machine, which is both easy to use and maintain, Blue Cap Coffee offers an internationally acclaimed brand which delivers consistently great tasting coffee supported by excellent service.  This coffee offering rivals and exceeds many of the high street offerings.

John Williams, Managing Director, says; “We know that a good garden centre café can contribute up to 50% of turnover, with customers increasingly seeing garden centres as a favourite place to visit and socialise without necessarily making a garden related purchase.”

The Lavazza BLUE capsule machine guarantees excellent coffee – the machine is so simple, after a short training session café managers can relax knowing that on busy days each and every cup will be as good as the last.

When coupled with the level of service that Blue Cap Coffee provides, the respect that the Lavazza brand enjoys and the sheer simplicity of the system, Williams is confident that Douglas-Davies’ decision to use Lavazza BLUE in the Hillview GC Group will be just the beginning of Blue Cap’s partnership. In addition to the coffee offering, Blue Cap offer an extensive hot drinks portfolio and many other complimentary products for the garden centre café.

Design is a complex beast!

Designing a hospitality space requires specialist knowledge...

Each week Catering Design Group, one of the UK’s leading restaurant and commercial catering design companies, provides readers of GTN Food Xtra with a range of solutions, hints and tips around the theme: “Are you wise to the value of good design!”

This weeks topic is:  “Design is a complex beast!”

Designing a hospitality space requires specialist knowledge and it’s fair to say that some clients underestimate the process and tend to think of it as a simple case of selecting the right chair, wall colour or catering equipment and fitting them into a pre-determined space.

It may surprise you, but the reality is that the interior décor of a space is just a small part of the design process, typically representing between 5-10% of the designers involvement in the project.

The design process is intense and lengthy and has to be thought out like a military operation.

New food-to-go launches at lunch!
2014 – Exhibitor Show Highlights

From gourmet popcorn to superfood salads, from organic soups to Bombay mix chocolate buttons, this year’s lunch! show boasts hundreds of food-to-go innovations from 300 exhibiting companies.

An essential visit for thousands of trade buyers from across the UK’s retailing, hospitality, snacking, convenience, and catering sectors, the multi-award winning show returns to the Business Design Centre in London on 23-24 September.  The following is just a taste of what’s new from ‘food’ exhibitors at lunch! 2014:

Recognised by the world’s top chefs, Cuisine Solutions Europe is the authority on sous-vide – the innovative slow-cooking technique that they pioneered, perfected and popularised (stand U115).  Exhibiting for the first time at a UK show, they will be demonstrating how their ‘precise time and temperature technology’ can benefit lunchtime retailers with a new 58 hour cooked medium rare beef.  They will also be holding a prize draw during the show.

New for this year, and unveiled for the first time at lunch!, visitors can enjoy the first look at new bakery brand Whisk & Pinny – exclusively from Freshfayre Chilled Food Specialist (stand M202).  Handcrafted by family bakers, this premium range of indulgent treats has been specially created to tempt customers and drive sales.  With all the favourite bakes – ranging from cakes, cookies, bars and muffins – to strong branding and POS solutions, operators will have everything they need for their grab and go bakery.

Consett Popcorn Company Limited (stand M349) is launching a brand new gourmet popcorn brand with instant 'shelf appeal' and an affordable price tag at lunch!.  The five new flavours in the range are available in retail single serve packs that show their authentic kitchen cupboard ingredients.  New own label options are now also available.

Visitors to the lunch! show will be amongst the first people to see and try the new single serve pouch of Eat Natural’s new Toasted Muesli with Buckwheat (stand U116).  The pouch is an individual 65g serving of its wonderfully crisp, naturally gluten free muesli.  It has been designed specifically with the ‘breakfast on the go’ market in mind (RRP 79p).

Launching at lunch!, Oppo Ice Cream (stand IZ-21) is made with natural extracts and virgin coconut oil, boosted with exotic superfoods.  British made, it is free-from sucrose and low-fat (80 kcal) and only produced with healthy ingredients.  The three ultra-premium flavours (available in 120ml and 500ml tubs) include Madagascan Vanilla with Baobab, Brazilian Acai, and Mint Choc Swirl with Spirulina.

New exhibitor Quibbles Limited (stand M441) is launching its new ‘free from’ range of sharer snacks, plus new single packs of nutritious snack mixes.  Available in seven flavours, including Chilli Chilli Bang Bang! (Indian hot chilli cashews and peanuts), and Honey, Nut Me Out! (Belgian chocolate honeycomb, honey cashews & hazelnuts).

World leading, family owned pastry manufacturer Pidy (stand M418) has announced three new launches for lunch! 2014.  Firstly a new gluten free pastry range, which includes an 8.5cm neutral and sweet pastry and a 4cm neutral canapé for sweet or savoury fillings.  Secondly a sweet and neutral short pastry range, which includes mini cups and mini tartlettes and finally a commemorative Flower of Peace Canapés, which come in a tasty neutral beetroot flavour.

Launching this September is the new Impulse range of 26g bars from Willie’s Cacao (stand M432).  This will make seven of Willie Harcourt-Cooze’s most popular flavours available for impulse purchase in places like cafés and coffee bars.  As ever, all these chocolates are made ‘bean to bar’ from the world’s great single estate cacaos, in Willie’s chocolate factory in Devon.  The range includes Venezuelan Gold, Peruvian Gold, Café Negro, Luscious Orange, Milk of the Gods, Sea Flakes, and El Blanco.

Eilles Tee UK (stand U303) is introducing BASIC textur (by herba cuisine).  A versatile, neutral texturiser, made purely from the white inner layer of citrus fruits and water, it can be used to stabilise or thicken hot or cold dishes (from sorbets and mousses to sauces and emulsions).  Other brands on show include Valonia, Crisbiss Waffle, and Balgo – a pure, natural honey carrier spoon that is ready to mix into hot drinks.

Posh Pasty Co (stand U205) is launching a new range of posh pies at lunch!.  All pies are hand-crimped, filled to the crust, served in 285g individual wooden pie cases, and made with local Cornish ingredients.  Plus, they also have a new range of pasties and sausage rolls – including vegetarian options and a range of different meats.

The Sweet Ideas Food Company (stand U108) is launching a new Healthyideas snacking range, which complements their philosophy of offering a healthy balance between popular confectionery lines, snacking products and healthier ranges.  They will also be showcasing their 2014 Christmas products, including Turkish delight, Christmas biscuits, novelty candy canes and gold coins.

Tideford Organics (stand M231) is launching a new range of free from autumn soups.  These gluten and sugar free organic soups are available in three delicious flavours – Winter Beetroot Soup with Curly Kale, Sweet Potato Soup with Chia Seed and Quinoa, and Red Lentil Soup with Apricots and Crushed Chillies.  All of their products are gluten free, organic and low in fat and salt.  They also produce vegan and vegetarian products.

Get Fruity (stand U218b) is a new healthy snack available in three flavours – Moist Mixed Berry, Scrumptious Strawberry, and Juicy Apricot, Orange & Ginger.  All three are bursting with real juice infused fruit and natural fruit juices, giving the bars a 39% fruit content.  The fruit is blended together with British wholegrain oats using virgin coconut oil, which stimulates the metabolism, and then lightly baked to lock in the flavour.

Already a big word-of-mouth success in Ireland, the Krüst-Cronut from Krüst Bakery (its take on New York chef Dominique Ansel’s famous croissant-doughnut fusion) will be launching in the UK at lunch! (stand U111).  They’re currently one of the only European suppliers that can produce this ‘must have’ treat on a large-scale.

The Snack Ham Company Ltd (stand IZ-17) is launching a revolutionary new meat snack at lunch! this year.  Made from 100% air dried pork ham, SNACK HAM is high in protein, under 70 calories and contains less than 5% fat (available in Original and Chorizo, 30g packs).  To help maximise shelf space, SNACK HAM is packed on convenient clip strips of 10 units, which are easy to display.

Crown FoodsWAT KITCHEN (stand G5) will be unveiling WAT KITCHEN, a new range of ambient chicken rice and noodle Asian ready-meals for busy foodies.  The range includes Chicken in Black Bean Sauce with rice, Chicken in Sweet and Sour Sauce with rice, Chicken in Chilli and Thai Basil Sauce with noodles, and Chicken in Teriyaki Sauce with noodles.  Microwave in just 2½ minutes; no water, fridge or fuss.

lunch! 2014 will be the first presentation of Little & Cull’s new branding and the revealing of the Tom’s Pies rebrand and individual Pie packaging to existing and potential new customers (Tom's Pies and Little & Cull, stand M413).  Little & Cull –  a leading supplier of premium frozen sous vide and prepared meals in the UK, is offering tastings of its range of terrines (including new Smoked Ham Hock).  Whilst Tom’s Pies is sampling new Beef Madras Pie and its range of mini pies in Chicken & Herb, Steak & Ale, and Chicken & Ham.

Scribbles’ new launch at lunch! is Artic Deli – a premium range of filled hot deli items that includes croque-monsieurs, paninis, wraps and burritos (stand A319).  Distributed frozen with 6 months shelf life, retailers simply defrost and heat to serve.  They can be heated in the oven, panini grill or a turbo chef.

Metcalfe’s skinny Topcorn has ‘popped’ out yet another taste-bud tantalising flavour to join their topcorn range – Metcalfe’s skinny Topcorn White Cheese.  Available for all visitors to this year’s lunch! (stand M524), the new flavour takes its inspiration from the US where ‘White Cheese’ is hugely popular.  This concept hasn’t yet graced the UK snacks market, until now.  The new flavour variant has a creamy texture whilst being 114 calories per serving (with no artificial colours or flavourings).

Tanpopo Japanese Foods (stand A107) has added several new additions to its range, including grilled Salmon and Miso Ramen Noodle Soup and, a new vegetarian option, Bamboo & Shitake Mushroom Tom Yum.

Mornflake (stand M308) is showcasing its new and innovative Superfast Pots range.  Offering the convenience of a dry, ambient product, made with skimmed milk powder, it turns to a ready-to-eat bowl of cereal and milk, by adding a splash of cold water.  Complete with an integrated spoon, Mornflake Superfast Pots are available in four variants, including Granola, Oatbran Flakes, Fruit & Fibre and Muesli.

Guilt Free Goodies’ range, which includes Oaty Flapjacks, Yummy Chocolate-Chip Flapjacks, Fudgy Brownies and Soft & Chewy Chocolate-Chunk Cookies in both singles and multi-packs in SRPs.  They are 30% reduced in both fat and sugar and deliver all the taste and texture of an indulgent treat (free from artificial colours, flavours and hydrogenated fats).

Glebe Farm Foods (stand U222) has expanded into foodservice.  Their gluten free offering includes 5kg bags of porridge oats, muesli, granolas, flours, homemade ‘loaf’ style cakes, ice cream cones, granola snack bars, cake and bread mixes, and beer and flavoured ciders.

URBAN eat, one of the UK’s leading chilled food-to-go brands, is showcasing its new monthly specials at lunch!
