Waitrose have submitted plans for a store next to a Notcutts garden centre at Nottingham – the grocery chain’s third tie-up wth the garden centre operator.
The new plans, which include a £5 million investment in improving surrounding highway access, envisage a Waitrose alongside Wheatcroft Garden Centre, part of the 18-store Notcutts group for the past five years.
Waitrose have already announced plans for a branch next to Notcutts’ Maidstone store, which would eventually move to a new site.
Meanwhile, plans are in the pipeline for a £14m development next Notcutts at Bagshot.
In the 1980s, The Notcutts store at Shirley, Solihull, was the first garden centre in the UK to have a supermarket (Tesco) move in next door.
