Our client is a wholesale nursery growing hardy nursery stock from three sites in south Hertfordshire employing approximately 35 full time staff. They supply a wide range of customers in the horticultural trade. In addition to their own grown material they source and supply almost any plants required by their customers, from other growers both in the UK and mainland Europe.
The Role
Currently they have vacancies for enthusiastic and committed staff to join their production teams as Nursery Operatives. The positions will be based at their sites near Hertford and Hatfield, but may involve placements at their third site near St Albans.Generally, the position is concerned with plant care, maintenance and potting. Full training will be given as necessary. Training will include both practical training undertaken "in-house" and attendance at external courses. Certain elements of training will lead to recognised qualifications e.g. first aid, use of forklifts etc.
The Candidate
Ideally candidates should possess either a horticulture qualification or practical experience in horticulture and PA1 & PA6 certificates are desirable. Technical skills should include:
- plant knowledge,
- ability to identify plant pests and diseases
- knowledge of plant husbandry techniques
Other skills needed for these positions include:
- an enthusiastic and willing attitude;
- good communication skills
A driving license is not a requirement of the job, but you will need to have your own transport to get to their sites (no suitable public transport available).
About THE PACKAGE
Remuneration: Salary range £15k - £18k, depending on experience and relevant qualifications.
Hours: 39hour week Our normal hours of work are 8.00am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday, with half an hour for lunch (normally between 12 and 2pm).
Holiday: All staff are entitled to annual paid leave of 23 days, in addition to 8 days statutory (bank) holidays.
