Despite the cooler weather at the start of the month and a Jubilee weekend that encouraged customers to party at home rather than visit garden centres total volume sales for the month were 15% higher than the average volume sales for the month between 2012 and 2019.
So, we reach the half year point with total sales volumes in the GTN Bestsellers Epos database up on 2021 by 0.6% and 16.8% ahead of 2019.
Whilst total sales revenues may be down year on year due to the lower levels of furniture and BBQ sales the volume sales indicate a continued increase in gardening activity compared with years pre the pandemic.
That increased activity and a shift in the profile of gardeners appeared to be a major driver for the huge amount of R&D and innovation that was on show at Glee last week.
The Glee New Product Award judges certainly had a hard time deciding on the winners as there were many very good new products among the 300 plus entries.
Congratulations to all of the winners. The full list of winners will be in GTN’s August issue and then a directory of all the products entered will feature in the September issue.
In the meantime, see you at Solex next week!
