Waitrose is the latest supermarket to have a go at gardening retailing outside one of it's supermarkets. Here's GTN's picture of the "Garden Centre" at Waitrose Newbury.
Will they suceed where Tescos, Morrisons and Asda have all had mixed performances in recent years? Sainsburys have a colourful in-store merchandised area for day-to-day gardening products but are not venturing into plants outside stores just yet.
On thing that's certain, these outside supermarket "Garden Centres" will be increasing the visibility and access to gardening and plants. With limited ranges there is therefore plenty of opportunity for getting those newly interested customers into your garden centres. Has anyone bought the advertising hordings close to a supermarket with an outside garden store to promote their centre?
