Focus should be on sowing composts

While the bad weather may have put a brake on seed sales, forward-looking customers will still be preparing in earnest to sow veg and flower seeds over the next few weeks, so it’s reasonable to expect sales of growing media to increase in tandem with the desire. Seed and cutting composts will be a priority, so any POS focus on these willl repay the effort.

A clutch of sowing composts permeate this week’s chart, with Westland Gro-sure Seed & Cutting 30L gaining nine places with a volume increase of more than 50%. The 10L bag of the same medium also made progress and Arthur Bowers John Innes Seed 25L re-entered at No.25, while their 10L bag was a new entry.

Highest climber, though, was Westland’s Gro-Sure Vegetable Compost 50L. And the week’s highest new entry was the Gem Cambark Chunky-Chip Bark 70L, a sign that gardeners are in the mood for a tidy-up.
