Behavioural expert joins line-up for GCA Conference

Leading consumer behaviour expert Kate Hardcastle MBE has joined the roster of speakers for the Garden Centre Association’s annual conference in January 2027.

Kate will offer her expertise on consumer trends, retail futures and building trust with customers on Monday, January 25 at the Crowne Plaza, Stratford-upon-Avon.

GCA Chairman and Operations Director of Haskins Garden Centres, Ben Harrison, who is organising the conference alongside GCA CEO Peter Burks, explains: “Kate is widely recognised for her expertise in consumer behaviour and retail strategy and brings a wealth of experience working with global brands.

“Her understanding of what drives customer decision-making and how businesses can adapt to changing expectations will be incredibly valuable to our members.”

Kate is an internationally respected business consultant, broadcaster and author, advising organisations including Disney, Marks & Spencer and EVRi on growth, technology and customer strategy.

With a career spanning more than three decades, her experience covers global supply chains, sustainability and the evolving commercial landscape of modern retail. She is also the founder of Buy Smarter, Buy Greener and a recognised advocate for responsible, consumer-focused business.

Ben continues: “Kate’s ability to translate complex consumer trends into practical, actionable insight makes her a highly engaging and relevant speaker. Her focus on trust, sustainability and innovation aligns closely with the challenges and opportunities facing our members today.”

A familiar face across major media outlets including the BBC, Sky, CNBC and NHK Japan, Kate has fronted documentaries and provided expert analysis to global audiences. She is also a sought-after keynote speaker at international events such as Cannes Lions and SXSW.

Peter Burks, GCA CEO, concludes: “Kate brings a fresh and insightful perspective on the future of retail and consumer behaviour. Her expertise will help our members better understand how to connect with their customers and adapt to an ever-changing marketplace.

“Our 2027 conference programme is continuing to take shape with a strong and diverse range of speakers, and we’re looking forward to sharing more announcements soon.”

The GCA’s annual conference regularly attracts hundreds of members from across the UK, offering opportunities to hear from leading speakers, gain industry insight and network with peers.

The leading industry body represents more than 200 garden centres nationwide and, through sharing information and its inspection programme, helps members achieve high standards in customer service, plant quality and reliability.
