Gloves and water butts make their mark on Bestsellers chart

Twenty-two of this week’s Garden Products Chart Top 50 products are from the Gardman stable, testimony to the success of the company’s current topical promotions strategy.

Gloves sales hardly need a helping hand at this time of the year, apart from plenty of facings and clip-strips to stimulate impulse purchase to ensure they find their way into every basket at the checkout. Ladies’ and men’s glove twin packs from Gardman are the highest climbers this week, both rising 20 places to Nos.8 and 9 respectively, with ladies heavy-duty glove twin packs the highest re-entry at No.21.

Highest new entry is Sankey’s 136-litre standard water butt (now supplied by new owners Strata); with the heavens still opening around the country, users are clearly keen to prepare for drier times. The timing is absolutely right for promotions on water storage lines.

Westland’s 1-litre glyphosate-based Weed Buster RTU kicks off the weedkiller season with a new chart entry at No.44. Weed growth has hardly stopped during this generally mild and wet winter, so perhaps the category is in for an earlier than usual start.
