Gouldings Garden Centre has announced the purchase of Rosebank Nurseries Ltd in the village of Rosebank, Clyde Valley.

The Goulding family started farming in the Clyde Valley back in 1897, this diversified into vegetable growing in the 70s, then onto wholesale bedding plant production in the 80s (this was all grown in polytunnels). 1990 saw the first glass house being erected and the started retail in 1993.

At this present time the family operate Gouldings Garden Centre and Nursery. The nursery supplies all home-grown perennials and bedding plants. The restaurant in Gouldings seats 140 covers. They are very fortunate to have repeat clientele, which keeps it queued out most days.

In 2017 the family purchased Flowers of Scotland Garden Centre in Rosebank. After refurbishment they now run this as Valley view. In 2017 it opened with a 90 seater restaurant and 60 occupancy soft play for under 6 year old. 2018 the adventure park opened, which is weather dependant and have a great annual membership following and in summer day can hold up to 1200 visitors. Also running along side the park, they run an autumn pumpkin picking event, which grows in size every year. This year sees there 25th winter wonderland, with great success with the GTN awards scene over the past 5 years, winning silver and gold in the greatest grotto team.

Rosebank Nurseries has now joined the Goulding family. This has been a plant and garden centre for the past 10 years. Since taking ownership in January 2026, there has been through a major refurbishment with a new plant area erected, restaurant and toilet refurbishment. The restaurant now has 120 covers. Shop is fully stocked with everything you need for your home and garden. The new site has been rebranded as River View at Gouldings.

The Gouldings would like to thank the Scott family for the smooth transition over the past year. And wishing them all success at their own site, Reynard Nursery and garden centre at Carluke.

Constantly evolving, Eco Tiffin, a building and surveying business, has its sights on the garden centre market to bring its Air Drain to a new audience.

With origins dating back to 1695, Eco Tiffin Ltd has developed on generations of practical building knowledge, craftsmanship and invention. Across more than five centuries, the Tiffin name has evolved alongside the built environment itself – adapting skills, services and thinking as buildings, materials and environmental pressures have changed, especially with the onset of climate change.

Under the leadership of Director Robert Tiffin, the business has made a decisive shift toward sustainable, evidence-led building performance, conservation and retrofit.

With increasing challenges from heavy rain and flash floods, Robert’s invention of the Air Drain, and understanding of how it will benefit the gardening and landscape sector, is an example of the company’s commitment to facing climate change head on and desire to seize the opportunity to promote its product to a wider audience.

“We launched the Air Drain last year. Surveyors, architects and engineers love it and

can’t understand why it has not been invented before;’ says Robert.

Seeing the invisible

Robert invented the Air Drain in direct response to the recurring ground-level moisture problems on housing stock identified through thermographic surveys. Across hundreds of thermographic surveys, ground-level moisture and cold bridging, often linked to raised external ground levels and restricted evaporation at the base of walls, was a recurring cause and commonly misdiagnosed as rising damp.

Conventional damp solutions frequently failed because they treated internal symptoms, not the external source of wetting.

Crucially as the effects of climate change bring about heavier and more frequent rains and flash flooding, higher ground moisture levels and splash back from paving and garden borders onto property walls, will only increase. This along with no drying potential and greater temperature differences are placing growing pressure on older and traditionally built homes.

Problems that were once intermittent are now persistent, leading to damp, mould and reduced thermal performance.

“Climate change is exposing weaknesses in buildings that were never designed for today’s conditions. Understanding this and the identification of the causes of damp related defects is ‘key’ to your home surviving another 100 years, and remaining warm and comfy,” says Robert.

Air Drain is a patented, passive moisture management system designed to encourage natural evaporation at the base of external walls, helping masonry remain dry, warmer and more resilient. The system complies with BS 6576 – the British Standard for the control of rising damp and works by removing the source of wetting from the structure and increasing ventilation. This approach addresses the cause of moisture ingress rather than masking its effects internally.

“The key;’ says Robert, “is that Air Drain stops bridging between the property, its damp proof course and its garden. “It removes the source of wetting- not just the symptoms.”

Eco Tiffin’s data records an average 20% reduction in damp readings in the first six weeks of installation, and a steady drop thereafter. Crucially, Air Drain differs from a traditional French drain as it does not allow naturally evaporation via diffusion from the masonry. Instead, it works with the existing structure, preserving stability while allowing moisture evaporation and thermal performance.

Builders, architects and surveyors already agree on the benefits of the Air Drain and recommended as general good practice. Eco Tiffin’s route to these areas of expertise is already established but its benefits to gardeners, either those taking on their own projects or employing professional landscapers, has great potential.

Additionally, Air Drain is easy to install and gives designers greater freedom to create gardens with borders and patios to the same level as that of the house while still protecting the fabric of the building.

Robert has spoken to several garden centres, all of which can see the benefit to the retail sector and customers. A working model could be having a demonstration area within a garden centre and passing orders directly through to Eco Tiffin for delivery. He also sees potential in stocking Air Drain alongside paving and hard landscaping for customers considering paving up to the walls of their homes.

“In today’s world we see the link and the necessity of the Air Drain. Not just to benefit the building but to also benefit the gardens around us;’ says Robert.

The Air Drain has 3 standard colours, but can be finished in any RAL colour.

The garden retail industry once again came together in spectacular style for Garden Re-Leaf Day 2026, delivering an inspiring programme of fundraising activity in support of the Greenfingers Charity. From sponsored walks to in-store events, this year’s campaign demonstrated the passion, creativity and generosity that continues to define this much-loved industry initiative.

Sponsored walk challenge

On Friday 20th March, supporters took to the great outdoors as part of the annual Garden Re-Leaf sponsored walks. This year saw an incredible 61 walkers join the South Walk, while a further 22 took on the more challenging North Walk route.

In the South, walkers were first put through their paces with some energising pre-walk aerobics thanks to Carolyn Syme, before setting off on their chosen route of either a 10-mile or 25km challenge. Meanwhile, in the North, many of those taking part were part of the Greenfingers Kilimanjaro 2026 trekking team, using the walk as vital preparation as they gear up to tackle the mountain’s formidable 5,895m elevation this June.

Both routes were made possible thanks to the dedication and leadership of key supporters. Special thanks go to Jane Lawler, who organised the North Walk, and Will Armitage, who led participants across the more demanding terrain.

The event was further brought to life thanks to the support of volunteers and contributors including Liz Shea and the Rock Choir and Jamie Donaldson, whose acoustic performance added to the atmosphere in the south. Additional thanks go to Claire Pearce from Evergreen Garden Care and Jackie Eades, alongside all the tail walkers and volunteers who ensured the smooth running of the day.

Garden centres show their support

As the walkers set off, garden centres across the UK hosted a wide variety of fundraising events, engaging customers and teams alike in support of Greenfingers’ vital work.

British Garden Centres delivered an outstanding show of support across its network, hosting a diverse range of activities including raffles, bake sales, guess-the competitions, face painting, pot painting, dog photo shoots, mini charity shops and hamper giveaways. Teams also took on additional challenges, including the sponsored walk, Mount Snowdon climbs from both Harrogate and Leeds, as well as a virtual indoor cycling challenge.

Blue Diamond rolled out activity across its centres, hosting cake sales and “plant a mini veggie planter” experiences to engage customers. Whilst Haskins Garden Centres contributed through in-store raffles, while other centres added their own creative flair to the day’s fundraising efforts including Old Railway Line who raised over £800 with their much-loved quiz and curry night.

A huge thank you must also go to British Garden Centres for hosting and supporting the South Walk at Tring Garden Centre, which has been the home of the event for several years and, once again, delivered a superb show of support in bringing the industry together.

Suppliers and partners step up

The industry’s supplier community once again demonstrated its commitment to the cause. TheGlee team got involved with both a bake sale and participation in the walk itself, while Hozelock hosted its own bake sale to raise funds.

As well as taking part in the South Walk, Woodmansterne embraced the spirit of the day with a “Floral Friday” alongside a bake sale, adding colour and creativity to the fundraising efforts.

Meanwhile, shopping channel QVC delivered an exceptional contribution, raising an incredible £12,000, with special thanks extended to Richard Jackson for his incredible support.

Linda Petrons, Director of Fundraising and Communications at Greenfingers Charity, said:
“Garden Re-Leaf Day continues to be one of the most inspiring moments in our calendar and 2026 has been no exception. To see so many people come together, whether walking, baking, fundraising or volunteering, is incredibly special.

“Every single effort, no matter how big or small, helps us continue our work creating magical, therapeutic gardens for children with life-limiting conditions and their families. These spaces offer a chance to play, rest, reflect and simply be together outdoors, often when time is incredibly precious. We are so grateful to everyone who has supported Garden Re-Leaf Day this year. Your energy, generosity and commitment truly make a difference.”

The final fundraising total for Garden Re-Leaf Day 2026 will be revealed shortly. Until then, supporters are encouraged to get behind the charity’s latest appeal, Healing Hands, Helping Hearts: https://www.greenfingerscharity.org.uk/get-involved/healing-hand-helping-hearts

Everton Nurseries near Lymington and on the edge of the New Forest is a much-loved garden centre and nursery. In the Collyer family for over 100 years, Everton Nurseries is now under new family ownership that will allow the business to continue its passion of serving local gardeners.

Everton becomes the fifth garden centre in the Your Local Garden Centre group owned by local garden centre owner, Paul Richards. Richards was attracted to the business, valuing its heritage and the quality of the plants it grows as well as the leisure retail and catering on site.

The change of ownership facilitates the retirement of the third generation of the Collyer family. Richards said “It has been a pleasure dealing with the Collyer family and our values closely align.”

Helpful and knowledgeable staff are a great strength of the business and all jobs are safeguarded. “We have no plans for redundancies. Quite the opposite, we will want more staff as we act on our plans to develop the business and make sure it has many more successful years as a family owned and horticultural business.” Says Richards. Two members of the fourth generation of the Collyer family will stay on in management positions.

The retiring Directors commented “It was a difficult decision but it was important to us that all staff will be retained. We are confidant that the business is in safe hands and will continue to thrive and prosper. We wanted the business to carry on in a similar format and remain one business incorporating the wholesale nursery side and the garden centre. We are very grateful to all our loyal and longstanding staff and customers and we are confident that the decision has helped to secure the future of the business.”

The heart of the business is the nursery that grows plants sold in the garden centre and to wholesale customers. Paul Richards started his career as a nurseryman and owned the Golden Acres Nursery at West Parley. Paul’s daughter Charlotte is following in her father’s footsteps and now runs Plants For Trade as a cash and carry nursery at West Parley. The nursery at Everton will be run by Charlotte as a sister business to Plant For Trade.

Camillias, the on-site coffee shop restaurant will continue with its own bakery for cakes and treats, and it will continue to be the popular meeting place it has become. Everton Nurseries is more than a garden centre, it is a long-established local facility, and a visit can really boost your wellbeing.

Everton Nurseries Ltd was established in 1922 by Mr C G Collyer and grew over the years to some 25 acres, producing a wide range of Trees, Shrubs, Fruit Trees, Conifers, Roses and Herbaceous Perennials for retail and trade sales. The garden centre was opened in 1985. Following a substantial re-fit and expansion in 2006, Camellias Coffee Shop and Restaurant was then opened.

Retiring Directors are Simon and Toby Collyer and Maria Collyer. New Directors are Paul and Charlotte Richards and Tim Mason.

Fourth generation family of the founder continuing in managerial positions at the business, Lucy and Alessio Collyer.

Your Local Garden Centre Group operates four garden centres: Mappleborough Green near Redditch, Stansted Park near Chichester, Alver Valley in Gosport, Findon Vale in Findon.

The business has a head office at West Parley, near Bournemouth airport where Plants For Trade operates a cash and carry trade nursery.

A family destination

The restaurant has been fully revitalised with a fresh look and a redesigned menu, offering a wider range of options for every appetite. A highlight of the transformation is a brand new on-site carvery, the perfect setting for a relaxed family lunch after a morning exploring the centre. The popular soft play area also remains, ensuring there is something to delight every member of the family.

Amy Stubbs, Managing Director of British Garden Centres, said: “Acquiring this site was an exciting moment for us, but what the team has achieved in transforming it in such a short space of time has been truly remarkable. We have invested significantly in making sure Grantham has a garden centre that matches the very best in our group, and we are confident that local families are going to love what we have created. <nw:body>

Gardeners across the UK are set to receive new support to help them successfully grow with peat-free compost following a major funding boost from Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.

The funding will help tackle some of the biggest barriers to peat-free gardening – including inconsistent compost quality and confusion among gardeners about how best to use peat-free products.

Delivered through the Enrich the Earth partnership created by Sizzle Innovation, the project will provide practical support across the horticulture sector from garden centre staff training to citizen-science trials with amateur gardeners.

The new programme will include:

Training for garden centre staff

Working with the Garden Centre Association, two new video modules will be produced for the GROW training platform used by more than 12,000 garden centre employees. The training will tackle common myths around peat-free compost and highlight successful growing techniques.

Citizen science with 100 gardeners

Newcastle University will run experiments with 100 amateur gardeners, testing different peat-free products and exploring how advice and messaging influence gardeners’ confidence and results.

A new quality standard for peat-free compost

Working with the Growing Media Association, Enrich the Earth will help finalise and promote a new independently assessed Quality Standard designed to reassure gardeners that peat-free composts are reliable and fit for purpose.

Enrich the Earth was created to bring together progressive organisations that want to accelerate the shift away from peat while ensuring gardeners continue to achieve good growing results.

The partnership has already produced peat free guidance for gardeners backed by more than 20 organisations including DEFRA, identified policy options to support the transition and delivered a pioneering community growing initiative in the North East of England.

Trewin Restorick, Founder of Sizzle Innovation, said: “The Government has restated its ambition to ban peat in horticulture. The challenge is to ensure gardeners have the confidence and the products they need to grow successfully without peat. This funding allows us to focus on practical solutions – better information, better training and better compost.”

Peter Burks, CEO of the Garden Centre Association, said: “Garden centres are on the frontline of the transition to peat-free gardening. Staff are regularly asked for advice by customers who want to make the switch but aren’t always sure where to start. These new training modules which will add to our existing resources will give teams the confidence and knowledge they need to support gardeners.”

Simon Blackhurst, Chair of the Garden Media Association, said: “An independently assessed Quality Mark for peat-free composts will be a major step forward in building gardener confidence. This project will help ensure the standard is recognised and trusted.”

The Horticultural Trades Association hosted its largest-ever ‘Plants in Parliament’ event, joined by Mary Creagh MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Nature at Defra. The event highlighted the importance of Britain’s original green businesses amid rising costs.

The HTA’s Plants in Parliament events began as a small drop-in session in November 2023 at Portcullis House. Since then, they have grown significantly in both scale and influence, with more and more plants carried along the corridors of power as an increasing number of parliamentarians queued to engage with HTA members and the team. Today’s spring reception was hosted for the first time in the larger Attlee Suite due to the growing support from MPs and Peers across the political spectrum.

Speaking at the event, HTA Chief Executive Fran Barnes highlighted both the scale of the sector’s contribution and the increasing pressures facing businesses.

Fran Barnes, Chief Executive of the HTA, said: “Plants in Parliament is about recognising the enormous value that environmental horticulture delivers to our economy, our environment and our communities.

“Our members are the businesses behind that impact, supporting 722,000 jobs and contributing £38 billion to the UK economy, while creating the green spaces that cool our towns and cities, improve air quality, boost flood resilience and support biodiversity. We are, quite literally, growing the future of this country.

“Every plant we took to parliament – and every plant in every cultivated green space – has been produced by a business. But the future of these vital businesses is under increasing pressure. While sales have grown, rising costs mean many businesses will need to increase turnover by 10–15% just to stand still. The increases to National Living Wage and National Insurance Contributions alone added around £134 million of additional cost to the industry, alongside business rates pressures, supply chain disruption, inheritance tax changes, energy costs and new regulatory burdens.

“For many businesses - particularly SMEs, which make up 90% of our sector - the past four years have meant tighter margins, reduced investment, growing uncertainty and less investment in the business as a result. Policymakers cannot continue to look at these pressures in isolation. The cumulative impact is what matters.

“Environmental horticulture delivers the green infrastructure we depend on for the environment, biodiversity, health and wellbeing and growing our green economy. Now is the time to recognise that and back the sector to grow.”

Mary Creagh MP, the Nature Minister, also addressed attendees, recognising the vital contribution of environmental horticulture to nature recovery, green infrastructure and communities across the UK.

Attendees were welcomed into a vibrant display of houseplants, bedding plants, and herbs supplied by HTA member Capital Gardens. They were invited to take plants back to their offices or constituencies, and this year, they could also pick up a DIY plant kit, complete with seeds from Crocus and materials from Mr Fothergill’s, to experience the growing process firsthand.

Event sponsor Ben Goldsborough MP said: “It’s a pleasure once again to support the HTA’s Plants in Parliament event and to see it go from strength to strength, bringing more colleagues together each year to celebrate the UK’s environmental horticulture sector.

“This is an industry that delivers real value, not just economically, but for our communities and our environment. Events like this are an important opportunity to connect policymakers with the businesses behind that impact and to better understand the challenges and opportunities facing the sector.”

The HTA continues to build on the success of ‘Plants in Parliament’ as a platform for engagement between policymakers and industry, ensuring environmental horticulture is recognised as a strategic sector, capable of driving growth, supporting climate and biodiversity goals, and improving quality of life throughout the UK.

With now less than three months to go until a 24-strong team of supporters begins their ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro on 10th June, the Greenfingers Charity trekkers have passed a major milestone, raising more than £100,000 in support of a brand-new hospice garden at Naomi House & Jacksplace in Winchester.

Over the past few months, the team has been steadily building both fundraising momentum and physical preparation as they gear up for the once-in-a-lifetime challenge. Training has already included a dedicated altitude preparation course, giving trekkers valuable insight into the demands of climbing to nearly 6,000 metres above sea level.

Alongside their physical training, the Kilimanjaro trekkers have been throwing themselves into a wide range of fundraising activities, rallying friends, family, colleagues and customers to support the challenge. From community events to industry gatherings, the team has been working hard to drive the fundraising total higher as the expedition approaches.

One recent highlight came from Alexa Blackmore of The Gardens Group, who hosted a hugely successful quiz night at Castle Gardens, raising more than £800 towards the Kilimanjaro fundraising effort.

Greenfingers Ambassador Bob Marley is also preparing to host his sell-out golf day, which promises to bring further support to the campaign.

Meanwhile, members of the Kilimanjaro team tackled another physical challenge closer to home. On Garden Re-Leaf Day, several trekkers took part in the North Walk, following a demanding route across the Holme Valley in West Yorkshire, which can see elevations reach as high as 1,300m.

Beyond the physical challenge and fundraising efforts, the climbers will also have the opportunity to see first-hand the impact their efforts will have. In May, the team are set to visit Naomi House & Jacksplace hospice to learn more about plans for the new Greenfingers garden that their efforts will be funding.

The garden is currently being designed by award-winning landscape designer Helen Elks-Smith and will provide a peaceful and inspiring outdoor environment for children with life-limiting conditions and their families.

Boyd Douglas Davies, Chair of Greenfingers Charity, said: “Reaching the £100,000 mark is a fantastic milestone and a real reflection of the commitment, energy and generosity shown by our Kilimanjaro trekkers and everyone supporting them.

What’s especially encouraging is that this is just part of the journey. With only a few months to go, there’s plenty more fundraising ahead, as well as the visit to Naomi House & Jacksplace in May which will bring into sharp focus exactly why this challenge matters so much.

“Every pound raised brings us closer to creating a magical, thoughtfully designed garden at the hospice, somewhere families can find a moment of peace, comfort and togetherness at the times they need it most. We’re hugely grateful to everyone involved.”

Show your support for the Greenfingers Kilimanjaro team

Standing at 5,895 metres (19,341 feet), Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest peak and the tallest free-standing mountain in the world. While it does not require technical climbing equipment, reaching the summit demands determination, endurance and teamwork.

The Horticultural Trades Association has responded to the publication of The House of Lords Built Environment Committee’s New Towns: Creating Communities report.

The report delivers a powerful endorsement of the environmental horticulture sector, explicitly referencing points made in the HTA’s written evidence as well as green infrastructure terminology to highlight that green spaces and biodiversity are "vital" and must be "incorporated in spatial planning from the outset."

The report’s summary provides a clear warning that echoes the HTA's long-standing position: "The evidence we received was remarkably consistent... without a galvanising vision, people-friendly placemaking, early social and health infrastructure, inclusive and adaptable design, and plenty of green spaces, these new towns will struggle to live up to their promise and create healthy, sustainable communities.

"Purpose must go beyond meeting numerical housing need. New towns should drive inclusive growth, reduce spatial inequalities and act as exemplars of modern, healthy, sustainable living. The continued emphasis on delivering housing units is not enough to give the programme meaning and create thriving and successful communities."

Katie Neenan, Senior Public Affairs & Policy Executive at the HTA, commented: "It is encouraging to see the HTA’s evidence reflected so strongly in the Committee’s recommendations, particularly the call for every new town to prioritise green and blue infrastructure from the outset. This sends a clear message that green spaces, biodiversity, and natural infrastructure must be central to placemaking and not treated as afterthoughts.

"This aligns with what we have been saying as a sector that the long-term success of new towns will depend on the quality of, and access to, green spaces for residents. It is not enough to focus solely on delivering housing numbers; we must also focus on the quality of the multifunctional green spaces that accompany them. These are foundations that cannot be retrofitted; they need to be embedded from day one if new towns are to succeed.

"The Committee’s report also reinforces that green infrastructure should be viewed as a strategic, long-term investment that delivers lasting benefits for health, communities, and public services. The Government must ensure that the next generation of new towns receives adequate initial funding to establish essential natural green infrastructure from the start, but it is also crucial that the long-term maintenance of these green spaces is considered too. By embedding the principles of the NHS 10-Year Health Plan, these spaces can support wellbeing and green prescribing, ultimately reducing demand on public services.

“Now, the focus must shift to ensuring these recommendations are fully implemented in delivery, funding, and long-term maintenance to ensure that green spaces continue to thrive for the benefit of all."

The horticulture team at Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh has credited Air-Pot as providing a significant breakthrough in protecting some of Scotland’s most important botanical specimens during its recent restoration project.

Built in 1834 and 1858, the Garden’s iconic A-listed Palm Houses were closed in 2021 for a major restoration programme to take place, with all plants removed for safekeeping.

Sadie Barber, Deputy Curator, Glasshouses, Indoor Living Collection at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, explains: “The use of the Air-Pot system has been a complete gamechanger for our horticulture team, transforming how we cared for our largest plants during the Palm House restoration works.

“These statuesque palms and ferns are an important part of our Living Collection, so a system that protected both plants and root systems was essential.

“The Air-Pot container delivered exactly what we needed. Their ingenious design kept the plants in excellent condition, even after years in containers, ready for their safe return home to the Palm Houses this year.”

The specialist renovation work included repairing 600m² of corroded ironwork, replacing 5,750 panes of glass and rebuilding significant areas of sandstone – all essential to safeguarding Scotland’s National Botanical Collection for future generations.

Before the work could begin, 800 plants, including towering palms and tree ferns, were carefully removed and rehoused. Protecting these statuesque specimens, some reaching several metres in height, required a container system that could maintain excellent root health over several years. This was Air-Pot.

Georgie Single, Sales & Marketing Representative at Air-Pot, which also has its headquarters in Edinburgh, says: “We are so delighted and immensely proud our Air-Pot containers delivered the perfect solution for this amazing work to take place. They played a huge role in safeguarding historically and scientifically significant plants during the Garden’s ambitious conservation project.

“This project was the most significant restoration of the Botanics’ A-listed Palm Houses in nearly 200 years. The horticulture team faced extraordinary logistical and horticultural challenges. It was so inspiring to see our 21st century technology supporting the successful return of these majestic specimens to their restored Palm Houses.”

Air-Pot containers are pioneering root-air-pruning technology designed to produce healthy, vigorous root systems for plants of all sizes.

Air-Pot is designed to eliminate root circling, promote a strong fibrous root system and support long-term plant resilience – performance features that became essential during the Garden’s multi-year decant and replanting process.

Used by growers, nurseries, botanic gardens and research institutions worldwide, the system enhances growth, resilience, and long-term plant performance.

The Palm House restoration project has recently reached completion, with the focus now shifting to replanting and landscaping ahead of the Palm Houses’ public reopening in autumn 2026.

The 40 largest specimens have already been safely replanted in the newly unified and climate-resilient glasshouse environment.

The Palm Houses’ revitalised structure with upgraded glazing, climate-resilient drainage and the removal of a 130-year-old internal partition will now offer visitors a unified and immersive experience.

The new planting scheme reflects both Victorian botanical traditions and the Garden’s modern research, showcasing palms, ferns, begonias and understorey species.

As the Living Collection is reintroduced throughout spring and summer 2026, Air-Pot has played a behind-the-scenes yet vital role in ensuring these plants remained in optimum condition.

<nw:body>
A new identity – and a new level of ambition – Royal Garden is set to make its mark on the UK outdoor leisure market this May, as it prepares to open its brand-new showroom and introduce a fully integrated category offer for garden retailers.

With roots dating back to 1992, Royal Garden is entering a new era in the UK with a full-scale relaunch that reimagines the brand for today’s outdoor leisure market. Brought to market by a highly experienced and familiar team with over 50 years’ expertise across the outdoor leisure and garden retail sectors, the brand combines proven industry knowledge with a fresh, forward-thinking approach to product development and supply.

A complete outdoor living proposition

At the centre of this launch is a truly comprehensive outdoor living offer. Royal Garden brings together elevated garden furniture, parasols, gazebos, pergolas, outdoor kitchens, storage, sheds and much more, all under one cohesive brand.

Designed as a connected assortment rather than standalone categories, collections feature coordinated materials, finishes and colourways. This enables retailers to create seamless, high-impact in-store storytelling while giving consumers the flexibility to mix and match across the entire range.

Built for modern retail

Royal Garden benefits from the strength and stability of one of the largest producers of garden furniture and accessories, with strong product development and design capabilities and a foundation that continues to support its UK growth. The result is strong supply capabilities, consistent stock availability and a long-term commitment to retail partners.

This is matched by a flexible, retailer-first approach to logistics. Mixed containers and tailored product selections allow centres to build ranges that suit their exact needs – from a few of ‘this’ to one hundred of ‘that’ – all delivered efficiently within a single shipment.

Investment driving momentum

Significant investment into the UK market is already delivering results. In under a year, Royal Garden has established a dedicated team, developed curated ranges specifically for UK consumers, secured key retail partnerships and ensured stock is ready for the season ahead.

Paul Cohen, UK Sales Director, said: “This is about more than a launch. It’s about raising expectations of what outdoor leisure can look like within garden retail. We’ve brought together the right experience, the right products and the right infrastructure to properly support our retail partners. The opportunity ahead is huge, and we’re excited to open our doors and start those conversations.”

Be among the first to experience Royal Garden’s new UK home

A key milestone in this next phase will be the opening of a brand-new UK showroom in Essex in May with a dedicated press preview week at the end of April. Located just moments from Southend-on-Sea Airport, the showroom has been designed as a true destination, easily accessible for both UK and European buying teams.

Here, visitors will experience the full Royal Garden vision brought to life. From timeless core designs to new material innovation, and with one of the widest product portfolios under a single brand, the space demonstrates how a fully integrated outdoor offering can transform retail environments and inspire consumers.

The Young People in Horticulture Association has completed the final block of its inaugural Management Development Programme, marking the culmination of a nine-day residential course designed to build the next generation of leaders within horticulture.

Led by leadership specialist Lindsay Muir of Cedar Associates, the programme combined classroom learning, team-based exercises and practical leadership development. Over three residential blocks, delegates explored core leadership principles, developed their management approach and built strong peer networks across the industry.

The final block concluded with delegate presentations, where participants shared their key learnings and how they are already applying them within their businesses and within the work of YPHA.

Participants represented a broad cross-section of the industry, including Hillier, Cook’s Garden Centre, The Secret Garden Centre, GrowTropicals, Fron Goch Garden Centre, Hartley’s Nurseries, Kerley & Co, the HTA, Old Railway Line Garden Centre, Klondyke Garden Centres, New Leaf Plants and Happy Plants, with members of the YPHA Committee forming part of this cohort.

The programme closed with a celebration dinner sponsored by the Colegrave Seabrook Foundation, who also supported the course as a key funding partner. The evening was attended by members of the Colegrave Seabrook Foundation team, alongside senior industry figures including Will Armitage, President of the HTA, and Boyd Douglas-Davies Chairman of the EHG, who is also a YPHA Ambassador.

Lindsay Muir of Cedar Associates added: “This programme has been a landmark for YPHA and an absolute pleasure to deliver. We set aside 30 minutes at the start of each block to review what delegates had implemented between sessions, but each time it stretched closer to two hours. That says everything about the level of passion, commitment and peer support within the group. People weren’t just attending, they were applying, challenging each other and making real progress between blocks.”

Hannah Cook of Cook’s Garden Centre added: “This course was a genuinely transformative and eye-opening experience for me. As my first formal management training, it highlighted where I had gaps in my knowledge and gave me the practical tools to improve. Coming from a small family business, I wouldn’t normally have access to something like this. The mix of delegates from across the industry made it even more valuable, creating space for real discussion, shared learning and strong connections. I’ve come away with greater confidence, a clearer sense of direction in my role, and relationships that will last well beyond the course. I cannot thank Lindsay, the YPHA or the Colegrave Seabrook Foundation enough.”

Stuart Lowen of the Colegrave Seabrook Foundation added: “We were delighted to partner with YPHA in supporting this Management Development Programme, which sits right at the heart of our focus on developing people in horticulture. The programme exceeded expectations, which was clear from the delegates’ presentations on the final evening. The energy, enthusiasm and commitment in the room was outstanding, and every one of the 12 delegates is a credit to their business. I’m confident they will take forward what they’ve learned and go on to become the future leaders of our industry.”

A central aim of the programme was accessibility. Each place was 75% subsidised, with employers contributing the remaining 25%. Funding was delivered through a combination of industry support, including the Colegrave Seabrook Foundation, alongside proceeds from YPHA’s Launch Success Challenge.

Several places were intentionally allocated to individuals who would not otherwise have been able to access formal leadership training, reinforcing YPHA’s commitment to widening opportunity across the sector.

The programme was also designed as part of YPHA’s long-term strategy to ensure the organisation can outlast its founding team, by equipping both current committee members and the wider membership with the leadership capability needed to sustain and grow the organisation into the future.

Following the success of the first cohort, YPHA is now looking to repeat the programme and is actively seeking both delegate and course sponsors to maintain accessibility and expand its reach.

Anybody who wishes to discuss support is encouraged to reach out to the YPHA Committee via admin@ypha.org.uk

New for 2026, British garden equipment brand Webb has introduced the Webb Classic 39cm Petrol Lawnmower, a dependable and affordable addition to its petrol mower line-up.

Designed for small to medium-sized gardens, this new model provides gardeners with a practical, easy-to-use petrol solution and, with an RRP of just £169.99, at an accessible price point.

Powered by the robust 131cc Webb DV130 engine, the new Classic 39cm delivers consistent cutting performance with engine speeds of up to 2800rpm. Offering the freedom of petrol without the complexity or cost of larger machines, it is an ideal choice for gardeners stepping into petrol mowing for the first time.

With a compact 39cm (15") cutting width, the mower strikes the perfect balance between efficient lawn coverage and easy manoeuvrability around borders, beds and garden features. The lightweight hand-push design ensures smooth handling, making routine lawn care straightforward and manageable.

The new model strengthens Webb’s petrol offering by providing a strong value alternative within the entry-level category, particularly for customers seeking reliable performance during a time when affordability remains a key purchasing factor.

AutoPot have announced the release of the Khloris automatic plant watering system. A completely unique innovation, Khloris has been designed to inspire and enable growers of all abilities to raise stunning, diverse, long-lasting house plants with ease – in any indoor setting.

At the heart of Khloris is a world-beating form of irrigation technology, proven in the hands of champion growers, commercial greenhouse producers, and absolute beginners alike. We’ve taken that technology and reimagined the design of the system around it for use in the home.

Forget Watering - With Khloris

The simple-yet-significant advantage of Khloris is that it automates irrigation, and so totally eliminates hand watering. This makes it ideal for those who love plants but lack the time, expertise, or physical capacity to tend to them. In truth, however, labour-saving is only a fraction of Khloris’ full potential.

Responsive Irrigation - For Spectacular, Intricate, Singular Results

Unlike any other watering system, Khloris is fully-responsive to plant needs. Uniquely, it irrigates only in response to uptake - exactly matching supply to demand. Because of this Khloris can yield truly exceptional plants that can absolutely redefine a living space. The system also completely redefines the practicalities of plant care.

With Khloris, over- or under-watering are a thing of the past. Growers need not worry about the particular requirements of different varieties or their indoor climate.

Better still, the system operates 100% power-free, requiring no electricity whatsoever. It needs no mains water pressure either - making it sustainable, low-cost, and stress free to set up and leave unattended.

Jason Ralph-Smith, AutoPot MD, on Khloris: “With Khloris, we wanted to put the incredible potential of our irrigation systems into something that worked aesthetically and functionally in any interior space.

The inspiration for the system came from a trip to South Korea. We were there visiting a commercial partner who desperately wanted a plant watering system that was suitable for use in indoor living spaces.

A particular issue for our partner was the typical living arrangements of many urban-dwelling South Koreans. In an increasingly familiar global trend, many people in cities there live without access to outside space, yet crave a little green haven of their own.

The wish-list for a system was something which:

Anyone could use to great effect

Was visually appealing in a household setting

Required no power or mains water pressure - and thus could be placed anywhere, cost almost nothing to run, and be left safely unattended

The only box our existing range could not tick was B). So we set about rectifying that. The result was Khloris”

Product Details

Available in copper, metallic sage, or blackberry, Khloris includes two pots equipped with water control devices and a reservoir. Along with these come all the colour-coordinated pipe and fittings required to create the ideal layout for any space. The system comes packaged in a full colour FSC-Certified retail box which features beautiful in-use photography, quick setup guides, and QR links to video resources.

Product Launch

The launch of Khloris will include a full multi-platform programme of product information and promotion. A wide range of video and animated assets will be showcased across digital channels and distributed via our extensive mailing lists. Together with a comprehensive suite of images, instruction, and copy resources, these assets will be readily available to support both retailers and consumers.

Digital output will be complemented by print advertising across a wide range of horticultural and lifestyle publications. Our team will also be exhibiting Khloris at a full roster of trade and public shows including the Garden Press Event, RHS Malvern Spring Festival, Glee, and the RHS Malvern Autumn Show.

Khloris will soon be available from a wide range of outlets as well as direct from autopot.co.uk. AutoPot has a network of around 40 garden centres of mixed sizes across the UK. It also partners wholesalers operating out of multiple countries throughout Europe and worldwide.

About AutoPot Watering Systems - Manufacturers of Khloris

AutoPot Watering Systems allow growers of all abilities to grow anything, anywhere, power-free, with no running water required.

Whether it’s flowers, fruit, root vegetables, vine crops, brassicas, squashes, spices, or even pulses, our systems are capable of responding to plant requirements better than any other form of irrigation for one simple reason: the plants control their own watering.

The plants are put in control by the patented AQUAvalve, the device at the heart of every AutoPot Watering System. The AQUAvalve regulates the supply of water and fertiliser to the container in which the plant is situated. Only once a plant has exhausted the supply will the AQUAvalve reopen to admit a fresh fill. It’s 100% responsive and not a single drop of water or fertiliser goes to waste.

Powered by gravity alone, AutoPot Watering Systems require no electricity and no running water, so you can set up pretty much wherever you please. Better still, you can walk away or holiday with no fear of leaving utilities switched on.

Economically and ecologically the systems represent a safe, sustainable solution that, given the rising pressures and costs of utilities, couldn’t be more timely.

The 2026 RECOUP Summit, sponsored by WRAP and Ecosurety, held on the 4 March in Leeds, brought together delegates from across the plastics, packaging, recycling, retail, manufacturing and policy sectors to explore the challenge of future advancements for the plastics circular economy.

A key theme was how the UK’s recycling system must adapt to reflect modern material flows. ReallyRecycle outlined a future where decentralised micromanufacturing hubs turn waste into new products locally, while Enviroo highlighted the current mismatch between supply and demand for recycled content, and the need for greater domestic processing capacity and more stable market conditions.

The role of AI, data and transparency was also emphasised. Polytag demonstrated how tracking packaging through digital markers can provide real-world insight into what happens to materials after use, supporting better design, clearer policy, and more effective recycling and reuse systems. Organisations including Sherbourne Recycling and Greyparrot highlighted how intelligent sorting and real-time data are improving material quality and enabling recovery of more challenging waste streams, while Cauli demonstrated how similar technologies are being applied to scale reuse systems.

Alongside system-level discussions, the summit showcased emerging material innovations. Developments from Woodly, Pulpex, and ReZorce demonstrated how packaging is evolving to balance performance with environmental impact from biobased plastics and fibre-based bottles to high-performance barrier materials designed with circularity in mind.

The summit concluded with a panel chaired by WRAP, featuring Borealis, Reconomy, Asda, Pepsico and IPL Brightgreen, reinforcing that no single solution will deliver circularity. Instead, progress will depend on collaboration across the value chain, supported by aligned policy, investment in infrastructure, and continued innovation.

The RECOUP Summit demonstrated that the transition to a circular economy is already underway, with innovation happening across materials, systems and infrastructure. The challenge now is to scale these solutions, align policy and investment, and ensure they work together to deliver meaningful, long-term impact.

Urban greening is more than a complementary feature of city planning—it is a vital tool for delivering climate resilience, restoring biodiversity, and improving urban life. Reflecting this shift, the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH) – the world’s champion for the power of plants – recognises cities that place plants at the centre of their strategies through the AIPH World Green City Awards. Today, AIPH announces the Category Leads guiding the selection of the 21 finalists for the 2026 Awards edition.

Informed use of plants in urban environments addresses some of the most pressing challenges facing cities today, including climate change, biodiversity loss, inequality, competitiveness, and liveability. The AIPH World Green City Awards recognise cities that are responding to these challenges through high-quality, plant-based solutions that deliver measurable impact.

The Awards are built on a rigorous, peer-reviewed evaluation framework that assesses functional urban greening initiatives. As the 2026 Awards process advances, AIPH is working with a panel of international experts to ensure that each entry is assessed with depth, fairness, and technical insight.

AIPH is pleased to confirm the following Category Leads, who are guiding the technical review process across each Award category:

Living Green for Climate Change – Melinda Martinus, Lead Researcher, ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute (ISEAS)

Living Green for Health & Wellbeing – Amanda O’Rourke, CEO, 8 80 Cities

Living Green for Water – Sarah Crowe, Town Planner / Lecturer, University of the West of Scotland

Living Green for Social Cohesion & Inclusive Communities – Leticia Lozano, Director General, MACIA Estudio

<nw:body>
BBC Gardeners' World Magazine’s Make a Metre Matter campaign is back for 2026, to inspire the British public to transform just one metre of space for the good of the planet, following an outstanding 15,523 square metres pledged last year.

No outdoor space is too small — or too large. Whether you have an urban courtyard, a compact balcony, a sprawling country garden or access to a community space, participants are encouraged to use their metre for things like growing plants for pollinators, harvesting homegrown veg, adding water to welcome wildlife, or starting a compost heap to boost your soil.

This year, the campaign welcomes its first commercial partner in sustainability focused mobile network, Ecotalk and its Chief Ecologist, Chris Packham, who will be tending to his own metre garden for a unique social video series throughout the campaign.

Make a Metre Matter is also proud to have partnered with the 30x30 UK initiative - a landmark global initiative with the goal of protecting at least 30% of the world's land and oceans by 2030, in order to halt biodiversity loss and tackle climate change.

Content Director of BBC Gardeners’ World Magazine Kevin Smith said: "Make a Metre Matter is back and we couldn't be more excited to see it grow. Last year showed us what's possible when people come together around a simple but powerful idea. A metre might not sound like much, but multiply that by thousands of gardens, balconies and community plots across the UK and the impact is extraordinary. With Ecotalk on board this year, we're taking that mission even further."

Chris Packham, TV Personality and Ecotalk’s Chief Ecologist said: "If you have a metre, now is the time to make it matter. Don't wait for others to fix the problems when you can do it yourself, and you can be as creative, dynamic or lazy as you like. You could just stop mowing a square metre of your otherwise tedious lawn, or you could plant wildflowers or vegetables, or put out a hedgehog box. There's no limit to a metre. Sprinkle some of nature's stardust and make your metre magical. And whatever you do, please share your metre with your friends, family, neighbours and all of us. Let's make a lot of metres make a difference for wildlife and humans across the UK."

Ecotalk’s Brand & Marketing Manager Lucy Delicata said: "Ecotalk exists to put nature first; every penny of profit goes back into rewilding projects across the UK rather than shareholders' pockets. Make a Metre Matter speaks directly to our mission to restore nature and is a powerful reminder that meaningful change can start small. This year we're putting that into practice by restoring wildflower meadows across our land holdings, and we're proud to be standing alongside BBC Gardeners' World Magazine and its readers in the shared mission to bring more nature back into the spaces around us."

The campaign will also be coming to life at BBC Gardeners’ World Live at the Birmingham NEC where BBC Newsround presenter De-Graft Mensah, along with gardening expert Lucy Chamberlain will be displaying their own metre gardens.

<nw:body>

Haskins Garden Centre has unveiled a striking new all-weather plant display area at its popular West End centre near Southampton. The structure is a bespoke horseshoe-shaped canopy designed to elevate the customer experience all year-round.

Working with long-term, all-weather canopy partner and garden centres expert, Fordingbridge, the brief was to de-construct an existing timber structure and create a brand-new hybrid horseshoe canopy with real visual impact, while retaining uncovered areas for fair-weather browsing.

The result is a sweeping 13-metre wide, 101-meter-long curved structure that naturally guides customers through the centre’s expansive outdoor plant area. The hybrid steel and timber canopy blends naturally into its surroundings, whilst Fordingbridge’s specialist Opal 60 fabric roof allows 60% light transmission to support plant growth, whilst still offering all weather protection to customers and staff.

The standout scheme was delivered as a full turnkey project including canopy design, removal of existing structures, groundwork, lighting, irrigation, canopy manufacture and installation.

Since completion, the canopy has encouraged greater footfall through the outdoor area of the garden centre and it has provided a standout architectural feature that frames seasonal displays.

This contribution has been made in recognition of the exceptional care, expertise, and compassion shown by Dr Wrigley and the wider NHS team, whose efforts quite simply saved Steve’s life.

“The NHS does extraordinary work every single day, but when it touches someone so close to our own community, it truly brings home just how vital that care is,” said LOFA General Manager Gina Hinde. “This donation is a small gesture of thanks for everything they have done—not just for Steve, but for so many others.”

LOFA remains deeply grateful for the dedication of NHS professionals and the life-changing impact of their work.

Dobbies Garden Centres has revealed a £1.5m investment to transform its foodhall offer across 48-stores nationwide.

The foodhalls, which have been upgraded with an engaging new look and an expanded 2,000-strong product range, are the next major milestone in Dobbies’ transformation strategy, and have been rolled out over the last 6 weeks in time for the peak season.

Created in partnership with 33 specialist food and beverage suppliers, the foodhall is positioned as a destination for food lovers - with a curated offer focused on everyday treats and gifting. Inspired by customer research, the new format was trialled in stores last year with excellent customer feedback, increased NPS, footfall and sales.

Building on its strong reputation for fresh bakery, at the heart of the new Dobbies’ foodhall format is an enhanced in-house bakery. Freshly-baked scones, pastries and traybakes are complemented by expanded ranges from suppliers like Bothams of Whitby, and Patteson’s macaroons.

Amy Siergiejew, Head of Trading at Dobbies, said: “Foodhalls are an important part of our garden centre experience, and we are excited to launch a new concept for our customers.

“We’ve created a look and feel that’s inspired by a cottage kitchen garden, with a new concept that brings together essentials, treats and seasonal variety through both popular brands and new ones that we think our customers will love.”

British garden machinery brand Webb Garden Power has today unveiled its most ambitious lawnmower yet: the Webb Performance Edition, a high-spec 53cm smart app-based petrol lawnmower designed to push the boundaries of what garden machinery can be.

The New Webb Performance Edition brings together a range of performance-led innovations designed to enhance speed, control, sound and overall presence in the garden:

Webb Smart Control App
Take control from your phone.

Twin-Turbo Grass Acceleration System
Faster airflow. Sharper cut. Completely brilliant.

0 – Lawn Finish in 3.2 Seconds
Blink and you’ve missed it.

Coloured Smoke Performance System
Because a perfect lawn deserves an entrance.

Acoustic Power Mode
From polite garden hum to “yes, I’m mowing” in seconds.

Alloy Performance Wheels with Turf Grip+
Corner your lawn like it’s the final lap.

Self-Propelled Drift Mode
Take corners like you meant to.

LED Underglow Deck Lighting
For those who mow… after dark.

Carbon Fibre Grass Collector
Lighter. Stronger. Arguably excessive.

Heated Ergonomic Handle Grips
Because cold hands are not high performance.

At the heart of the lawnmower is Webb’s Twin-Turbo Grass Acceleration System, engineered to deliver faster and more responsive cutting performance. Ensuring a consistent, controlled finish across a range of lawn conditions.

For those seeking a more dynamic mowing experience, Webb has incorporated Self-Propelled Drift Mode, providing enhanced agility when navigating tighter turns and more complex garden layouts.

The addition of app-based control further extends usability, allowing operators to manage key functions and settings remotely through the Webb Smart Control App, bringing a new level of convenience and control to the mowing experience.

Whilst performance remains central to the design, where the Performance Edition truly sets itself apart is through its visual and acoustic presence. The addition of LED underdeck lighting introduces a bold, modern aesthetic, while the optional coloured smoke system creates a striking finish pass, ensuring the lawnmower leaves an impression long after the job is done.

Webb has also developed Acoustic Power Mode, allowing you to switch between a quieter, refined engine tone and a deeper, more pronounced performance sound.

Because if a lawnmower is designed to stand out, it should sound like it too.

“At Webb, we have always focused on performance and precision, but with the Performance Edition we wanted to go even further” comments Mark Moseley, Webb Garden Power Sales & Marketing Director. “This is about creating something that stands out in every garden - a true showstopper that reflects both innovation and personality.”

To find out more about the new Webb Performance Edition lawnmower, and to purchase direct, visit www.handytrade.co.uk

Flymo have this week given green-fingered Brits the chance to elevate their gardening game like never before.

The iconic heritage brand, famous for its beautifully bold orange hue and hover technology, has once again taken gardening to new heights with the launch of its pioneering, gravity-defying hover boots.

Stylish yet practical, the FlyBoot represents the latest evolution in its mission to make mowing easier and more enjoyable.

Howard Scott, Flymo’s UK Country Manager, says: “When an inventor combined a hovercraft and a mower in the 1960s, it revolutionised lawncare forever, using a cushion of air to reduce friction and effort, and Flymo was born.

“With our world-first FlyBoot concept, we aimed to bring that same effortless glide directly to the gardener, giving them a fresh and exciting new perspective on their lawn, quite literally.

“By adapting our airflow and lift technologies into a wearable format, we’ve created a pioneering concept that allows users to move freely and smoothly across grass, maintaining control while experiencing that signature Flymo hover effect.

“We’re delighted to launch the FlyBoot and excited by the exploration of how our heritage and engineering could continue to evolve in the years to come.”

The very first Flymo model, a combination of flying and mower, was actually blue but changed colour based on consumer feedback – and the famous orange brand was born in 1965, making Flymo 60 years old.

In 1965, gardeners were initially sceptical about the flying mower model but were left stunned by demonstrations – with many rushing to replace their old-fashioned petrol wheeled mowers with the light and agile, and utterly iconic Flymo.

Today, the Flymo is instantly recognisable by all generations and proudly remains the UK’s best-selling hover mower.
