Kingfisher will be launching over 40 new Christmas products for 2015 when they return to Harrogate Christmas & Gift in 2015.  Exhibiting on Stand B15, Kingfisher will be showing their entire Festive range of artificial trees, indoor and outdoor lighting, decorations, seasonal novelties and gifts...

Kingfisher will be launching over 40 new Christmas products for 2015 when they return to Harrogate Christmas & Gift in 2015.  Exhibiting on Stand B15, Kingfisher will be showing their entire Festive range of artificial trees, indoor and outdoor lighting, decorations, seasonal novelties and gifts.

The exciting new products being shown for the first time include various animated scenes, plush gift boxes, Santa sacks and stockings, traditional plush Santas and an eye catching Point of Sale Display Case ready filled with baubles packed in acetate tubes.

Kingfisher (Bonnington Plastics Ltd) is one of the UK’s largest importers of Gardening, Leisure and Christmas goods, with over 2,000 products and their own offices in China.

Sales Director Sergio Tartaglia says: “The Kingfisher Festive range has experienced considerable growth over the past few years, and we are investing heavily to expand the amount of products we offer.  The team is very excited about the new items we are bringing in for 2015, and we’re looking forward to showing them off at Harrogate."

Visitors to the stand will not only be the first in the UK to view the new products, but they will also be able to take advantage of show-only promotions, special offers and pre-season order discounts.

Vitax buys Organico for an undisclosed sum

Vitax Limited, one of the UK’s leading garden and horticulture manufacturers, has extended its organic product range by purchasing Organico Limited for an undisclosed sum. Organico is best-known for manufacturing the popular 6x, 100% natural fertiliser and pellets as well as the Groworganic brand widely used on allotments and by growers...

Vitax Limited, one of the UK’s leading garden and horticulture manufacturers, has extended its organic product range by purchasing Organico Limited for an undisclosed sum.

Based in Somerset, Organico is best-known for manufacturing the popular 6x, 100% natural fertiliser and pellets as well as the Groworganic brand widely used on allotments and by growers.

A favourite amongst gardeners who prefer sustainable and organic gardening methods, the acquisition of Organico forms part of Vitax’s strategy to introduce more natural products into its existing portfolio.

Produced in the UK for over 40 years, 6x is a traditional chicken fertiliser and billed as ‘The best thing on Earth’.  It contains no peat or chemicals, is odourless and oven heated to over 200o resulting in a weed and pathogen free fertiliser.  Once composted, one bag of 6x is equivalent to six sacks of farm manure.

Although Vitax purchased the complete share capital of the business it will continue to work with Roger Cumisky and his team as it grows the business.

Paul Gooding, managing director at Vitax, says: “6x is the premier natural fertiliser brand in the UK and it will play a large part in our plans for 2015 and beyond.

“It is very rare that an opportunity arises to purchase such an established and well-regarded brand which has such growth potential.  The 6x brand is already a market-leader so we have no plans to re-brand it or bring it into one of our existing ranges.  We will however be utilising the reach of our sales team to make it more universally available at Garden Centres throughout the UK and overseas.

“Following the purchase of Slug Gone in 2012 we have been on the lookout for complementary organic products whilst also developing our own.  The launch of the biodegradable range in 2013 further consolidated our commitment to developing more sustainable and organic products.

“Although it is a very simple concept, 6x has been imitated but never been equalled.  We are delighted it is now part of Vitax’s portfolio.”

6x will continue to be manufactured in Somerset where it purchases the bulk of it chicken waste, sourced from farms within a 50 mile radius.

This commitment to the local economy was just one consideration in its sale to Vitax as Roger Cumisky, managing director at Organico, explains: “For the past 40 years we have been developing a range of products which are not only sustainable and organic but utilises waste from local farmers, so it was important we kept that continuity and investment in the surrounding communities.

“Over the years we have been approached by many buyers but Vitax echoed our values and has a great heritage behind it.  It is well-known for its range of products and we wanted to ensure the business continued to grow with a manufacturer which understood our vision.

“As a family-owned business, we know the 6x brand and Groworganic name will continue to flourish under Vitax and we are excited to be still part of it.”

The 6x range will still be available through garden centres and mail order.

SnowTime’s Bright Ideas set to illuminate 2015

Visitors to Harrogate Christmas & Gift Fair starting on Sunday can look forward to SnowTime’s ‘QuickLight’ technology – pre-lit hinged trees that no longer require a wiring connection between tree sections...

SnowTime part of Trans-Continental Group, understand the paradox of the Christmas industry; while it is nothing if not traditional, it requires a commitment to product development in order to generate sales. SnowTime is well-seasoned to this task; being the first to introduce the fibre-optic Christmas tree to the market in 1997, the most successful Christmas product launch of all time, and since have continued to lead the way.

For 2015, retailers can look forward to SnowTime’s ‘QuickLight’ technology; pre-lit hinged trees that no longer require a wiring connection between tree sections. Quite simply, electrical connections are made and the tree lights instantaneously when the central pole is slotted together. It’s a perfect solution for those customers who don’t want to sacrifice style over convenience. SnowTime’s ‘QuickLight’ technology offers two great looking artificial trees with the added advantage of reduced assembly: The luxury Manitoba Spruce; a slim conical-shaped tree with densely packed branches and the premium Ashley Fir; with moulded PE outer branches that look and feel like the real thing.

SnowTime’s ‘Colour-Switch’ outdoor LED light strings mean that customers will no longer have to choose between white lights or multi-coloured variants. Additionally being multi-function, these innovative light strings have 5 lighting effects including static, opening up an array of display effects. Available in two lengths with 100 or 200 bulbs, both have a handy 10m lead wire and are packaged in SnowTime’s unmistakeable packaging.

For the Rising Stars, it's the final countdown
After eight months of hard graft, the five finalists in the Garden Centre Association’s Rising Stars programme, sponsored by Westland, are preparing to face their ultimate challenge...

After eight months of hard graft, the five finalists in the Garden Centre Association’s Rising Stars programme, sponsored by Westland, are preparing to face their ultimate challenge.

They will take the stage at the GCA’s annual conference in Chester later this month, to face a discerning audience of garden industry delegates – who will then choose an overall winner.

The five finalists are: Kirsty Clark (Perrywood GC), Matthew Fay (Stewarts Garden-Lands, Christchurch), Lisa Waim (Haskins Snowhill), Hannah Mason (Chessington) and Cerys Williams (Perrywood).

They will present at the GCA Conference in Chester on 26 January – the finale of an eight month programme in which 28 young candidates attended three merchandising Masterclasses run by IBBIS director and training facilitator Ian Boardman. Thanks to Ian’s efforts, many of the Rising Stars, even those who did not make the final cut, went on to increase sales in their departments by keeping hotspots fresh, creating clear signage and organising themed displays throughout the year.

Ian Boardman said: “All the Rising Stars who took part in the programme were top notch and I’d like to thank every single one of them for their efforts and praise them for the progress they have made. The results of their achievements in their workplace prove they are all stars in their own right!”

Keith Nicholson, Marketing Director for Westland Horticulture said: “On behalf of Westland I’d like to congratulate the Rising Stars finalists for getting this far. We now face a very exciting GCA conference final where delegates will get the chance to vote for the winner – Rising Star of the Year 2014.”

GCA chief executive Iain Wylie said: “The five finalists have some really exciting presentations prepared for delegates. It is always the highlight of the GCA conference and this year will definitely not disappoint.”
