British Garden Centres confirms acquisition of Dobbies Morpeth

British Garden Centres has announced the acquisition of the Dobbies centre in Morpeth, taking its portfolio to 69 sites.

The Morpeth site hopes to open in early to mid-March and will revert back to its original name of Heighley Gate Garden Centre, with the group very much wishing to embrace the heritage of the site. British Garden Centres is retaining the existing centre team and looks forward to working with them to build on the existing strengths of the site, ensuring it will become a top destination garden centre.

The centre will look to recruit additional roles into the team to support the growth. The job vacancies will be posted on the British Garden Centres website  (www.britishgardencentres.com/careers ) and Heighley Gate's social media pages.

For other updates on the centre and opening please keep an eye on the Heighley Gate Garden Centre’s Facebook and Instagram pages.

Charles Stubbs, Founder and Director of British Garden Centres said: “We are thrilled to welcome the Heighley Gate store and teams into the British Garden Centres family.  Our priority for the next few weeks is to work with the passionate team to ensure a smooth transition and swift reopening for the local community. We are excited to continue growing and strengthening our presence across the UK as the largest family-run garden centre group.”

British Garden Centres (BGC) is the UK’s largest family-owned garden centre group with 69 centres around the country. The group is owned and led by The Stubbs family, who also own and operate Woodthorpe Leisure Park in Lincolnshire.

BGC was launched in 1987 with the opening of Woodthorpe Garden Centre by brothers Charles and Robert Stubbs. Since 2018 it has expanded rapidly with the acquisition of 50 garden centres allowing it to grow from its heartland to the business it is now with 69 garden centres spread from Carmarthen to Ramsgate, Wimborne to East Durham.

The group has a team of 2,700 colleagues working across the garden centres, restaurants, growing nurseries, distribution centres, Woodthorpe Leisure Park, and Woody’s Restaurant & Bar.
