Blue Diamond makes it 19 with Coton Cambridge
|
Blue Diamond announced their 19th centre last week with the acquisition of Coton Garden Centre in Cambridge and there's a possible 20th site waiting in the wings.
The centre, to the west of Cambridge has been operated by Polhill Garden Centres since 1997, and Blue Diamond have secured a new rental agreement for over 30 years from the trusts that own the green belt land around the city.
Alan Roper, who was born and grew up in Cambridge had been looking for a site to build a centre in the area which has a rapidly growing population as a result of major company re-locations such as Astra Zeneca. "I was being driven around looking for land to build a centre when we drove past Coton. I had no idea it was there," Alan told GTN Xtra.
"It is a centre with great potential. We will be aiming for £4-5 million turnover."
Coton is just off the M11, making it Blue Diamonds second site within minutes of the M11 motorway after the acquisition of Harlow Garden Centre earlier this year.
Alan hopes to be able to announce another centre later this month with potential for adding a further £10m turnover in 2018, hinting about a site for a new build somewhere in the North Midlands. Watch this space.
