Warm and sunny Easter Monday eventually attracts the shoppers

Garden centres were boosted by warm and sunny weather on Easter Monday which enticed shoppers to flock to their stores.

The mood was summed up by Poplars general manager Alastair Jackson, who commented: "It was a stonker of a day."

Alastair added: "Friday and Saturday were OK but Monday, with the improved weather, was excellent, especially the plant sales and garden sundries. Garden furniture was also strong as we had some good Bank Holiday offers on."

A spokeswoman for the Derwen Garden Centre in Guilsfield, near Welshpool, said: “It’s certainly been one of our busiest days of the year so far. The sunshine brings people out, which is great for us.”
