Mulch ado about nothing for growing media sales

The mini ‘Beast from the East’ certainly dented hopes of the expected mid-March upturn in growing media sales with volumes falling back from the previous week.

The cold blast did bring a benefit for mulches to protect young plants. Strulch Organic Straw Mulch, 100 litre bales, increased sales by 438%.

Other highlights were:

  • Bord na Mona Growise Peat Free Multi Purpose + John Innes, 50 litres is the highest new entry this week at No 33.
  • Westland Ericaceous plus John Innes, 30 litres, re-enters at No 26.
  • Scotts Miracle-Gro All Purpose Compost, 56 litres climbs 31 places up the chart to No 13.
