GCA to recruit a fourth standards inspector

The Garden Centre Association is looking to recruit an additional standards inspector following a year of expanding membership.

A team of three inspectors - Michael Cole, Alyson Haywood and Gordon Emslie - currently covers the country auditing standards and awarding scores on which the GCA's awards are based.

But the association now has 200 garden centres on its books, having recruited 13 new members in 2019 (only one a former Wyevale), and has stretched the resources of the incumbent team.

Iain Wylie, the GCA's chief executive, is inviting people from all areas of the industry with insight into the garden centre market or with wider retailing experience to get in touch if they feel they can contribute to improving standards through the inspection and feedback process.

“They would need to visit member centres during the spring inspection window and be able to give objective and honest feedback on what they find,” he added.
