Seed company Johnsons reports its Designer Garden Collections - the brand new 'border in a box' concept - have been very well received by the garden trade, beating their sell-in targets with ease.
Of the three collections, by mid December 2014 the Cottage Garden had reached 255%, the Wildlife-Attracting 199% and the Fragrant and Cut Flowers 193% of initial targets set by Johnsons, with the range being stocked by many major garden centres and other leading retailers.
Johnsons' Helen Clayton reports that more than 300 major garden centres have stocked the collections to date, a number still rising, with the packs proving most popular in south east England.
"The really good news is the early sell-out has been encouraging. They are proving popular with consumers, and retailers are already placing top-up orders for more", she says.
Eye-catchingly presented in a beautiful box with designs by leading illustrator and printmaker Hannah McVicar, each of the three Designer Garden Collections includes 12 packets of carefully chosen annual and perennial flower seed varieties, plus an easy to follow seed sowing and planting plan to encourage the creation of beautiful borders.
"I am so pleased my designs are attracting gardeners to this new idea," comments Hannah.
The three collections are each presented in a compact counter-top display unit containing eight boxes. Each Designer Garden Collection has a recommended retail price of £9.99, making it an inexpensive gift with a high perceived value or a bargain for the purchaser's own use.
