Christmas sales for the Top 50 bestselling products slowed in the second week of December to leave the GTN Bestsellers Christmas index at 3.9% down year on year.
Sales over the past few weeks have been affected by footfall dropping after other retail re-opened and shelves being emptied. As our index traditionally starts from Week 39 at the end of September we need to look back in the data to August to see the picture in full as that’s when Christmas started selliing through in 2020.
Christmas food and confectionery lines were the big upward movers in the GTN chart last week.
Highlights of the week were:
Steenland Gold Net Chocolate Coins 100g moved up one place to be the No 1 bestselling Christmas line of the week.
Grandma Wilds Embossed Christmas Tree Tin of biscuits was the highest re-entry at No 14
Other food re-entries were Image on Food Gingerbread Reindeer at No 17 and Mackies Turkey & Stuffing Crisps at No 18.
