Visitors to the Millbrook Garden Company Limited’s garden centres can now purchase a third of plants grown in the business’ own nursery.
The company, which has centres in Gravesend and Highgrove, Kent and Crowborough, East Sussex, is selling the home-grown plants as part of its commitment to offering the ‘Best of British’.
Tammy Woodhouse, Managing Director of The Millbrook Garden Company, explained: “The nursery at our garden centre in Crowborough grows more than 30% of the plants sold across the company in an attempt to reduce plant miles.
“We are totally committed to supporting other great British growers and producers too.
“We’re proud to offer our customers top quality plants, home-grown in our beautiful country – the best of British in fact.”
Some of the plants currently stocked by the garden centres (July, 2013) that are grown in the Millbrook nursery include a wide range of hardy perennials including dahlias, scented lavender and hardy fuchsias
Tammy added: “British grown plants are much more environmentally-friendly too as they have travelled fewer miles before they reach us. Seventy-five per cent of the plants we stock are grown in the United Kingdom.”
