It has been more of an average month than a flaming June

Total volume sales for June, recorded by the GTN Bestsellers Epos data from garden centres, shows June 2014 down 16% on 2013, up 8% on 2012 and 17% up on 2011. Taking the average June sales volumes for the five previous years, it has been a just-below-par month.

After the great start we had to the year, that’s somewhat disappointing, but turnover may well have performed considerably better based on the high levels of outdoor furniture and BBQ sales that centres have reported when the GTN team visited them for The Greatest Awards.

“By displaying this corner casual dining suite in the gazebo, we’ve sold a high value gazebo as an add-on for nearly every sale,” Sue Bolam from Klondyke’s Houghton Hall Garden Centre told GTN Bestsellers.

Those centres who took the gamble and bought containers of outdoor furniture for this season are sitting pretty with more stock ready to meet demand, while others are shopping around to fill gaps.

It promises to be a good SOLEX at the NEC next week!
