GIMA announces departure of Vicky Nuttall

GIMA has today announced that its long-standing Director, Vicky Nuttall, will step down from her role in May 2026, marking the end of a remarkable 12-year tenure at the helm of the trade association.

Since joining GIMA, Vicky has overseen a period of significant growth, shaping the organisation into the respected, influential, and collaborative body it is today. Under her leadership, GIMA has strengthened its position within the garden retail sector, expanded member services, and deepened engagement across the industry.

Reflecting on the decision, Vicky said: “After 12 years leading GIMA, and 25 years working within the garden retail sector since starting out at Forest Garden in 2001, the time feels right to plan for my next chapter and equally, to support GIMA as it plans for its own. Stepping down has not been an easy decision, but the organisation is in great shape. We’re continuing to grow, our members are engaged, and there is a brilliant team behind the scenes - both in-house and among our associate members who provide business support - who I know will continue to guide GIMA forward with confidence.

“I’m incredibly proud of what has been achieved, from steering the organisation through the challenges of Covid to strengthening our voice and value for members, and it has been an absolute privilege to serve the industry I care so deeply about.”

Paying tribute to Vicky’s impact, GIMA President Kate Ebbens said: “It is impossible to fully capture the influence Vicky has had on GIMA and the wider garden retail community. Her leadership, drive, and deep passion have helped shape GIMA into the vibrant, forward-thinking organisation it is today. Alongside the professional progress she has delivered, she has brought warmth and positivity to the Council, qualities we will all miss enormously.

“We are hugely grateful for her dedication in supporting a smooth transition over the coming months, and we know she will continue to give the very best of herself to GIMA right up until her final day. Vicky leaves not only an outstanding legacy, but also many friends who regard her with the utmost respect and affection.”

Vicky will remain in post until May 2026, ensuring continuity while the recruitment process for her successor gets underway. After that time, she looks forward to spending more time with her family and hobbies, while remaining open to any new business opportunities that may arise.

Those interested in learning more about the role are invited to contact Mark Butler of Vitax and GIMA Secretary, by emailing mark.butler@vitax.co.uk
