Brian Evans, former Chairman of Wyevale, dies aged 78
Brian Evans, who engineered the massive expansion of Wyevale garden centres to become the largest garden centre group in the 90's, has died aged 78.
As Chairman of Wyevale, Brian led the acquisition of many garden centres including the purchase of Kennedys and Country Gardens. When he retired in 2004 the group had 114 centres. He is pictured above at a dinner in his honour in February 2005, from GTN's March 2005 issue.
Brian died in his sleep last Wednesday, after his health had deteriorated over the last couple of years .
Brian's wife Christine has said that a celebration of his life will be held and details will follow.
Ah, Sorry to hear about this, I owe much of my understanding of basic management and practical commercial retail business to Brian.
It was a steep learning curve for me being fresh out of college joining the rapidly expanding Wyevale group in the early 1980's.
Brian understood the need to recruit and train young people into our trade .. a challenge for us still 40's years later.
Thank you Brian, your are not forgotten, condolences to his family.
