Garden centre industry loses much-respected friend and colleague

News has come through of the sad loss to the industry of David Smith, Account Manager for Taylors Bulbs in the West Midlands and Northern Ireland. David passed away suddenly on the afternoon of Saturday 7th December.

David had worked for Taylors Bulbs for nearly 21 years and had joined Taylors from Winchester Bulbs.  Before that, David had worked for Sherston Earl.

In a letter to David’s customers, Adam Taylor, Director of Taylors Bulbs, said; “We will always be grateful to David for all he did to support the team at Taylors, for all his hard work and dedication, and for being one of the kindest, most gentle men we have had the privilege to work with.  We all, as you, will miss him.”

“David was due to retire in the summer of 2025, a date he had openly shared with us. He would have worked for Taylors Bulbs for 21 and a half years and he had decided on the date as he wanted to see through the spring flowering bulb selling season so his customers would benefit from all his experience and knowledge.  That sums David up.  He loved his work, and he loved doing his best to look after his customers.  And as many of you will doubtless know about David, he loved his family, sharing a joke and football too.”

David’s funeral is on Monday 30th December at 2pm at Bramcote Crematorium, NG9 3GJ. His wake will be at The Manor Squash Club, Ilkeston, DE7 8AT at 3pm. The family have said that if anyone wishes to attend, they would love to see them there.
