Four Wyevale Nurseries staff celebrate 130 years of service between them

Four colleagues from Wyevale Nurseries in Hereford have been recognised for their long service after collectively achieving 130 years of employment at the UK’s award-winning commercial grower between them.

James Mattock, who has notched-up 40 years’ service, alongside Mark Williams, Karen Edwards and Imme Davies, who have each celebrated 30 years, received awards at the Royal Three Counties Show.

Heather Williamson, Wyevale Nurseries’ Chairman, whose grandfather started the award-winning business, says: “We are incredibly proud to celebrate the dedication and loyalty of James, Mark, Karen and Imme. Together they collectively represent an outstanding 130 years of service to our business and to the wider horticultural industry. Their commitment and contribution across the decades have helped shape the successful company we are today.”

James Mattock, IT Manager, received a Silver Medal in recognition of his 40 years of service. He joined the business in 1985, initially working in the propagation unit where he established a micropropagation laboratory.

Heather explains: “James demonstrated early on a real aptitude for systems and data management, moving into propagation management before transitioning into IT and stock control. He has played a pivotal role in developing our systems and continues to lead major improvements to our IT infrastructure. He is a trusted and highly valued member of the team and we’re delighted he has achieved this milestone and received his award.”

Mark Williams, Irrigation Supervisor, was awarded a Bronze Medal for 30 years’ service. He joined Wyevale Nurseries in 1996.

Heather adds: “Mark began in our potting department before moving into irrigation, where he has spent most of his career. He is a reliable, hardworking team member responsible for managing one of our most valuable crop areas. His commitment and consistency have been invaluable to our business and his colleagues.”

Karen Edwards, Despatch Tractor Driver, has also marked 30 years with the company this year and received a Bronze Medal. She has undertaken a wide range of roles during her time with Wyevale Nurseries.

Heather continues: “Karen has worked across many departments including propagation, container production, irrigation and despatch. Her versatility, willingness to learn new skills and dedication make her a fantastic asset. Today, she plays a key role as a tractor driver and trainer within our despatch team.”

Imme Davies, Assistant Manager within the Tree Division, also celebrates 30 years’ service and received a Bronze Medal.

Heather says: “Imme joined us in 1995 and quickly showed exceptional knowledge and passion for tree production. She has been instrumental in the success of our Tree Division, particularly in stock control and selection, and has made a huge contribution to the development and efficiency of our operations. Her enthusiasm and dedication continue to inspire those around her.”

The awards were presented by the Three Counties Agricultural Society*, which recognises employees who have completed long and continuous service in agriculture and horticulture. Bronze medals are awarded for 30 years’ service and Silver medals for 40 years.

Wyevale Nurseries’ main business is to supply garden centres, landscape contractors, local authorities, foresters and landowners with a comprehensive range of trees, shrubs, hedging, herbaceous and specimen plants.
