September has been a slumbering month for garden centre sales this year. Sales volumes reported to GTN Bestsellers from garden centre EPoS data shows sales for the month to be down 5% on last year and only marginally up on September 2013.
Plants, Bulbs and Veg-2-Gro products have fared best during the month so there is still plenty of desire to garden, but without any frosts many gardens are still looking great and as a result gardeners have not had the impetus yet to get on and replace, replant and redesign ready for next year.

When that happens, along with increased visits to centres for Christmas, we’re sure there will be a pick-up in core gardening product sales – that is provided you haven’t packed them all away for Christmas!
Have you got any special core-gardening promotions running through October?
Let us know how you are making the most of increased Christmas footfall to sell through plants and gardening lines.
