Compact mulberry wins Chelsea’s Plant of the Year Award
A compact mulberry cultivar, Morus rotunbiloba ‘Charlotte Russe’ won the prestigious Plant of the Year title at the RHSChelsea Flower Show. It was also featured on the industry's '40 Sunbury Road' exhibit. ‘Charlotte Russe’, which produces a lot of fruit on new wood, makes an excellent fruit shrub for smaller gardens or the patio. The plant, discovered by Japanese breeder Hajime Matsunaga, is available in the UK exclusively from Suttons. It was sourced by Dutch brokers Plantipp. Clematis 'Taiga' (pictured left), also managed by Plantipp, was fourth in the competition. This beauty has amazing double bi-coloured flowers and was bred by Shigeaki Ochiai.
