Tri-Star’s MD meets the Prince of Wales during Notpla visit

Tri-Star Packaging’s Managing Director met the Prince of Wales recently as part of the company’s commitment to working in partnership with Notpla and its innovative range of sustainable products for garden centres.

The occasion was part of Tri-Star’s support of Notpla and its pledge to drive innovation within the field of compostable and recyclable food packaging to help garden centre cafés boost sustainability.

Steve Norris, MD at Tri-Star, which supplies the garden centre industry with innovative disposable packaging, explains: “Notpla is on a mission to reduce the amount of plastic we throw away and to make disposable packaging more sustainable.

“In December, they were awarded the prestigious Earthshot Prize in the ‘Build a Waste-Free World’ category. The prize is designed to find and grow the solutions that will repair our planet during this decade and was founded by Prince William.

“The visit was made by His Royal Highness, who is also President of the organisation, to allow him to learn more about Notpla’s innovative seaweed-coating for food takeaway boxes, as well as meeting key distribution partners like Tri-Star.

“For many years, our mission has been to seek out, test and introduce a wider variety of more sustainable packaging. We are delighted to offer these award-winning, recyclable and home-compostable kraft food boxes, made with a natural seaweed-derived formulation, to our customers.”

Tri-Star Packaging has been supplying clients with Notpla seaweed-coated food takeaway boxes for almost two years now.

It’s part of its ‘Sustainable Future’ programme, which provides customers with more sustainable alternatives to traditional food packaging products.

Notpla’s products are unique due to the special lining made from seaweed that replaces the usual barrier coatings on foodservice products. Unlike PE and bioplastics, its coating does not require specific recycling pathways or specialised industrial composting equipment to degrade. It takes less than six weeks for it to completely decompose in a home composting environment.

In recognition of the award, Notpla’s seaweed-coated takeaway boxes will now feature the Earthshot prize logo.

Tri-Star Packaging is the nation’s top go-to expert for innovative disposable packaging. It works closely with clients to provide tailored products that offer fantastic food presentation, add value and increase sales.

It specialises in Food-To-Go and delivered food packaging, offering an extensive range of front and back of house products, bringing together the best in market solutions for the hospitality sector.

In just 30 years, the business has gone from a start-up to the UK’s leading food-to-go packaging supplier.

This unrivalled combination of its passionate roots and full-service expertise, means it has an innovative team who live and breathe the food sector, plus it also has robust systems in place that build peace of mind.

Whether it’s creating a unique product to build a brand or helping to solve a stock management issue, Tri-Star Packaging does it all.
