What it means to win a Glee New Product Award

The winners of the Glee New Product Awards, run in association with Garden Trade News, have been celebrating their success and GTN Xtra got their reaction to their awards.

The Glee New Product of the Year

Kent & Stowe Landshaper K Shock Shovel – Westland Horticulture

Simon Mcardle, Divisional Director, Hardware, said: "After years of work it is extremely rewarding for the whole team for the Glee judges to pick the Landshaper K Shock Shovel in the Landshaper range as the overall winner.”

Simon is pictured with Marie Williams, Head of Category, Hardware, and Georgia Howland, Assistant Brand Manager.

National Garden Scheme Centenary

NGS Dahlia Border Collection – Taylors Bulbs

Richard Carrick, National Sales Manager, said: “We are delighted to win the award in support of the NGS and hope customers will get behind it and help generate income for the charity.”

Landscape

Bamboo Fencing – Lows

WD-40 Specialist® Bio Lubricant Multi-Use – WD-40 Company

Tiffany Cann, National Sales Manager Retail, pictured with Victoria Reece, Assistant Marketing Manager, said: “We are really excited to share our new product innovation and have been given the change to explain the importance of the eco label classification. It has had a great response at the show, and we are really excited for retailers and end uses to embrace the new formulation.”

Leisure & Entertaining

Sahara Outdoor Kitchen – Sahara

Stephen Kinsella, Business Development Manager, commented: “We are delighted with the award, the exposure it gives us at Glee to help us attract new customers.”

Wild Bird Care

Dried Calciworms – AgriGrub

Helen Mytton-Mills, Co-Founder, pictured with Georgina Garner, said: “This is our first foray into retail and first time at Glee. We are grateful to be recognised as a small, sustainable business especially when we see the size of some of the businesses around us.”

Garden Decoration

Elementa Water Features – Meadow View Stone

Sarah Hill commented: “Really happy to have won the award and the product has been so well received. We’ve had lots of interest in the range, especially the trough and the ‘how to’ videos."

The Glee Sustainability Award

Eco Slow-Feeding Ramial Mulch – Eco Crops

Neil Watkins, Founder and MD, said: “We were grilled by the experts, and they gave us the award, so it must be good. It is a dream to get our second award in only our second year at Glee and we represent the farmers and the team. It reflects everything we do.”

Neil is pictured with Emily Dodd, Media and Marketing Manager, and Martin Fletcher, Key Account Manager.

Growing Containers

75cm Corten Effect Cylinder – Rago Planters

Jason Frost said: “Really good for the product to get the award, not only here at Glee but also SOLEX a few months ago. The pot is a great size for garden centres and priced at just the right sweet spot.”

Home and Fashion

Night Lark Plain Dye Coverless Duvet Set-Dusky rose – Nightlark

Jill Warburton, Senior Account Manager, commented: “We are super excited to be at our first Glee and couldn’t be more proud how well our products have been received.”

Retail Services

ElectRoad EV charging – ElectRoad

Founder Richard Seppings said: “As a company that’s new to the sector with a product that really answers questions that need answering about EV charging for garden centres, we are highly proud of the award. It represents a big step for us in making the industry aware of what we can do.”

Richard is pictured with Andy Drinkell (technical director) and  Ben Battledore (operations director).

Food & Drink

Datekin Wheat & Bran Date Cake – Datekin

Sales manager Xanthe Brennan said: “We have already had people coming over, eager to try the product and see the rest of the range. It is also nice to have been part of the award ceremony – it’s felt really good and we are very proud.”

The Andy Bunker Best of British Award

Apple Legacy – Frank P Matthews

Director Steph Dunn James said: “We feel really privileged to win this award – it is a very special one and quite emotional. It is a great variety, found by a former production director who has retired after 40 years. So it is his legacy, our legacy as a company celebrating 125 years, and a legacy for the NGS on its centenary.”

Plants Seeds & Bulbs

Sedum Seduction La Vie En Rose – Darby Nursery Stock

Tom Tree, sales executive and new product development manager, said: “We are always thrilled to win an award as it genuinely results in increased sales. This sedum ticks every box for the consumer – it doesn’t need the Chelsea Chop or staking, it has good variegation and is hardy across the whole of the UK. The award is the cherry on the cake.”

Growing Materials

Kelp Shot 1L – TerraMara

Humphrey Atkinson, co-founder, said: “We are very excited and delighted to win in our first year at Glee. It has been a great opportunity for us to learn more as we meet people in the industry.

Pets

Sam's Field Goose with Sweet Potatoes & Spinach – Sam's Field

Colin Rodger, managing director, said: “We are thrilled to have won this fabulous award – which actually comes 18 years after our first Glee.”

Growing Accessories

Potting Mat – Creative Products

Director Mark Hall said: “Thrilled to win another New Product Award at Glee. We are pleased the judges could see the potential of the product with it’s easy storage and practical solution for amateur and professional gardeners.”

Geert-Jan Loomans, said: “The award is terrific and has bought an amazing amount of traffic to our stand. We will conquer the UK market!!!”
