Millbrook plans for the future of Crowborough centre
The Millbrook Garden Company says it has no immediate plans to close its Crowborough centre in East Sussex despite submitting a planning application to build 33 homes on the site.
Managing director Tam Woodhouse told GTN Xtra: “We have we submitted a planning application for Crowborough, this is in the public domain and all the staff have been aware of this for some time.
“We have no immediate plans to close the site but in the longer term it is something we have to consider.
“We would focus our attention on Gravesend and Staplehurst as both centres have the potential to grow in the future, particularly Staplehurst where we have plenty of space and the opportunity to develop.
“We are very much continuing to invest in the rest of the business; in fact we are re-flooring Staplehurst at the moment to make sure we are ready for Spring!”
Crowborough Town Council has given its backing to Millbrook's application for outline planning permission for the site in Tubwell Lane.
The plan would involve the demolition of the garden centre and the building of 33 houses, 12 of which would be affordable homes.
