Highly-regarded plant nursery and garden centre in Oxfordshire up for sale

Specialist business property adviser Christie & Co has been instructed to market Swallows Nurseries & Gardens, an established nursery, garden centre and café in Mixbury, North Oxfordshire.

Originally founded in 1989 as a wholesale nursery, the business has successfully evolved into a popular garden centre and visitor destination since opening to the public in 2022. The site also features eight show gardens together, covered retail areas and has developed an excellent reputation for its high-quality horticultural offering.

Located in an attractive rural setting on the Northamptonshire-Oxfordshire border, close to Brackley, occupies an accessible position providing excellent links to Buckingham, Milton Keynes, Northampton and Oxford. The setting combines strong transport links with a growing and increasingly affluent customer base.

A key attraction is The Nordic Kitchen, a stylish café serving brunches, lunches, speciality coffee and Scandinavian-inspired cakes. The café offers 40 internal covers and a cosy interior with a wood-burning stove as well as attractive outdoor seating. The property benefits from a well-presented customer car park with space for approximately 30 vehicles.

Anna Allen says, “Swallows Nurseries & Gardens has been a passion project for us, and we are incredibly proud of the business we have created. From growing our own plants and developing the gardens to building a café that has become a destination in its own right, our focus has always been on providing customers with a unique and enjoyable experience.

“We look forward to finding the right buyer to take the business forward and build on everything that has been achieved to date.”

Tom Glanvill, Head of Leisure Brokerage at Christie & Co, who is managing the sale process comments, “Opportunities of this quality rarely come to market. Swallows Nurseries & Gardens is a highly regarded business that combines a proven horticultural operation with a successful café and destination appeal through its inspirational gardens.

“The business offers multiple income streams, a loyal customer base and clear opportunities for future growth, and we expect interest from both established garden centre operators and new entrants to the sector.”

Swallows Nurseries & Gardens is on the market freehold with an asking price of £1,100,000.
