New digital platform aims to connect gardeners

A fast-growing UK gardening network founded to support women entering the horticulture industry is entering an exciting new chapter this autumn, as WeWeed CIC (Community Interest Company) prepares to launch a redesigned website and new mobile app, making it easier than ever for companion gardeners, garden owners and sponsors to connect.

Built around the concept of “companion gardening”, WeWeed creates opportunities for women to learn, earn and build confidence by building their own self-employed gardening income in real gardens. The model enables those developing skills to establish themselves as independent gardeners, while supporting older or less-able garden owners to maintain their outdoor spaces – a practical, symbiotic approach that benefits both sides.

Already home to nearly 1,000 female gardeners across the UK and nearly 2,000 garden owners seeking support, the platform is now expanding to welcome more self-employed female gardeners, garden owners and local sponsors. Landscapers, arborists, plant nurseries, garden centres and educational organisations are invited to join as local and national sponsors, and yes, boy gardeners are very welcome too, in sponsor roles.

Responding to a growing need

As interest in gardening continues to rise alongside demand for flexible careers and community-led learning, WeWeed offers an accessible and supportive route into horticulture. Members gain real-world experience, develop practical skills and build meaningful relationships – an important distinction in what can often be a solitary profession. Through online webinars, chat groups, in-person meet-ups and organised days out, gardeners are part of an active, connected network.

WeWeed also links gardeners locally so they can collaborate when needed, whether that’s providing an extra pair of hands for larger planting projects or enabling experienced gardeners to hand over gardens they have outgrown to those just starting out. These considered transitions ensure continuity for garden owners while giving newer gardeners both an established client base and a trusted source of ongoing support.

Janet Wood, founder of WeWeed, said: “Companion gardening sits at the heart of why WeWeed was created. We wanted to open doors for women who love gardening but don’t always see a clear route into the trade, while also supporting people who need help caring for their gardens. It’s about learning together and creating meaningful connections.”

Supported by national sponsors Meadow Mania, Grow Seed, RocketGro and Oakland Gardens, WeWeed is continuing to grow its network and is now inviting additional local sponsors to come on board. Businesses can engage directly with an active, motivated audience of gardeners and garden owners while helping strengthen pathways into the industry.

A relaunch designed for real gardeners

Launching this September, the redesigned website and new mobile app make it simpler to find opportunities, communicate locally and access shared learning.

WeWeed remains committed to championing women entering the gardening trade while welcoming gardeners of all levels, industry professionals and supporters who want to be part of a more connected gardening community.
